Olsen's fumble - review

Blackmagic

For every turnover that is what really happened and then there is what the NFL refs try to interpret it to be on that day.  Usually that depends on the tides, phase of the moon, moisture level and total amount of fans watching the game.

Watching the game with friend I said, "According to me, that's a fumble but according to the NFL, who knows."

I do think if it would have been reviewed the refs would have ruled it incomplete

SB Nation mentioned it...

Virtually every other play like this in 2015 has been ruled an incompletion.  I personally think it was a catch and fumble but the NFL is totally inconsistent in their rulings on these.

I think we should have challenged it.

You are not allowed to challenge plays that are automatically reviewed (turnovers, touchdowns), or you get hit with a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty. The replay official apparently decided it didn't warrant a closer look (as the replay booth upstairs reviews first and then buzzes down to the officials on the field if they believe it should be reviewed further).

That replay official is stupid.

Yeah ultimately I think that was a fumble, though a really weird one.  I wonder if Greg was wearing some defective gloves or some poo, cuz he almost lost the ball when he "tucked" it on his game saving 4th down conversion catch too.  But hell, we persevered through all the bullshit, both the self-inflicted variety and the not.

I saw him wiping his gloves on Cotchery at one point during the game.  Maybe those heathen Saints put some voodoo on them?

OK...   here are two almost identical plays... one is a fumble and one is an incomplete pass.  Guess which is which... :(

fug you NFL.

Exactly!  The NFL has been so inconsistent with what counts as a catch. I feel that they were both catches, but there needs to be a more concrete definition of catch vs. incompletion. There's no room for feelings in a football game! Save that for fan forums :-)

Stewart's ass looked like it was on the ground while the ball was still in his hands though! Reminded me too much of the Ginn "fumble" from earlier this season.

Putting it up next to the Dez Bryant play makes it look kind of egregious.

I think the comparison of these examples shows more of just how confusing, and inconsistently enforced the NFL rules currently are. Which makes it even more baffling that the league does little to nothing to correct these issues other than shrugging it off, and raking in the dough.
