Finnegan gets playing time, Bene a target

Everyone in the secondary was getting picked on because there was a lot of miscommunication. But bene didn't have that bad of a game, I feel with a week under his belt Finn with get more reps and we will see a lot less of Colin Jones. And it's scary to think what this secondary is going to look like when Tilman comes back.

Our biggest liability on Defense all season has been defending the slot. First it was Bene getting torched there and now its Jones.

This week it seemed we played more Zone defense to provide help against it but Drew Brees is elite in his field vision. Our weakness on D is no secret and some teams are just better equipped to attack it. The saints are one of those teams.

I disagree that Norman did not play well today. His strength is lining up in man coverage and locking down whoever we line him up against. When we switch to the zone looks it's really tough to gauge who's most at fault for allowing big plays in real time. You really need to have time go back and watch. Even then its hard to blame anyone specific person in the secondary on the zone plays. Sometimes a safety might get caught peaking upfield and get burnt deep but it's up to our D-line to break through and disrupt the passer before they have time to find a hole in the zone.

This is the same reason Olsen is so damn good. He gets wide open often. Cam has time or creates time by moving around and eventually Olsen finds the hole in zone defense. Olsen is just a matchup nightmare for other teams. There is really no good way to attack him without committing multiple players to defend him, in which case it exposes another hole for us to attack.

Ginn actually ran some crazy deep routes where he kind of ran through the gauntlet of zone D( blew past multiple defenders guarding an area of the field vs a player on the field) and the reason he was in position to make the big plays deep is Cam had time to let him finish his route.

I am excited to see what Finnegan can bring to the table. If he proves reliable enough at defending the slot, we can really leave him, Norman and Tillman in man coverage. This will allow for us to get exotic with having the linebackers use a variety of zone blitzes where they disguise whether they are coming on the blitz or drop back in coverage to defend the middle of the field. This will allow Coleman to roam free deep and Harper to cheat up towards the line.

Were playing a ton of zone yesterday, to try to deal with NO routes.

Didn't really see Bene getting burnt a lot.

I saw our zobes exploited and bad communication on the back end a hell of a lot more.

Who that falls on, only coaches can know for sure.
