Those up the middle QB keepers are taking a toll on Cam

I don't mind them when its short yardage trying to pick 1 or 2 yards for a first down, but running Cam up the middle when its 2 and 10, it just makes no sense. On that last drive with was 3 and 6 I believe and we did a QB keeper up the middle WTF

I don't know whose calling those plays weather it be Cam or Shula they have to take it easy, the last thing we need going into the playoffs is a gimpy Cam

Geez people, Cam is not a fragile flower surrounded by rabbits and bales of cotton. He's a brick....house (you're welcome for having that song in your head now).

Seriously though, Cam isn't RGKnee. He's not this guy you have to keep safe from harm. He's huge and knows what he's doing. He has taken hits his entire football playing life. He knows how to take a hit. He'll be fine. I'm much more nervous when he takes hits within the pocket, honestly.

As previously stated, Cam running up the middle on early downs is a couple of things happening.

1) It's a read option. That means that Cam may be able to keep it, depending on what the read key does. If the read key takes the RB, Cam is running. If It's an outside zone read, that means the QB point of attack is inside. Deal with it.

2) If it is a designed QB draw or power, that is just to give the defense something to think about. It may not work at all, but it sets up play-action off of it.

Whose treating Cam like a flower? Cam is human, he's taken more hits than any QB in the league and has a surgically  repaired ankle. We just don't want him to take unnecessary hits that gain hardly any yards.

And when Cam is in a passing grove theirs no need to run him,

By this logic, we should only run Stew when our passing game is not working at all. And even then, it should be sparingly. Because he has the 2nd most impressive injury history on the roster as of this moment.

Cam has taken a lot of hits, yes. But this isn't like Tom Brady taking that number of hits. Cam takes the hits because it just goes with his style of play. He's a high-flying, mobile QB. He accepts that he will take more hits than your average, traditional QB.

When Cam is in a passing groove is precisely when you should run him. Why? Because they'll have to start dropping more in coverage or blitz, which naturally creates space. You don't stick with passing or running just because it is working. We had 150 yards rushing early in the 3rd quarter. We finished with around 175. Could we have had 200+ rushing yards? Yes. It was working. But we wanted the run game there when we needed it. So we passed 41 times and ate up a terrible secondary so they wouldn't stack the box on us, which would minimize the run game later.

Football is a game of many strategies. None are necessarily "right" or "wrong", "good" or "bad". There's nothing wrong with sticking with what's working. There's also nothing wrong with changing it up at times to catch teams off guard and keep them off balance. That's all it is. That's all I'm saying.

I'm more concerned about him taking the hits in the pocket when he doesn't get rid of the ball with plenty of time. That's what led to the sack that twisted his ankle.

I know it's his nature to always try to make a play out of nothing, but when it's 1st and 10 and nothing is there on a scramble just toss it away and try again on the next play.

A week or so they were talking about a QB with a run play called for specifically him.  It evens the odds.  When a QB is handing off the odd team out is the offense because basically the QB is out of the play.   Now with the extra blocker (the RB) the odds are more in favor of the offense and if the O Line gets any push and stays engaged with his defender.  Chances are the QB is going to gain some yardage.

WE are fortunate to have this type of QB that can handle a hit.   RBs don't wear down from the beating it usually is their legs.  Cam will be OK.  It is what makes him special.

My primary concern with hits on Cam have to do with the head shot he took at the goal line. It was a legal hit and he will be targeted in this way going forward.

With all the media frenzy over QBs continuing to play with concussions I believe the spotters in the stadium will begin to take a more proactive role pulling them off the field. Big Ben played around 13 plays last week before taking himself out of the game. Keenan a few weeks before couldn't stand up after a hit and remained in the game. That movie concussion coming out won't help things.

That drive might not have ended in a TD had Cam been sent to the locker room immediately after the hit.
