If anyone played worse than Jake....it would have to be

I don't understand why there weren't more shotgun called after it was obvious Philly was flat selling out half the time. I remember a couple times where the blitz up the middle was so fast they reached the QB before the running back even had time to get in front of the QB to block them. Jake didn't help much with his decision making either. He had 3-4 seconds a few times to throw and stood like a statue in the pocket until the pressure finally broke through.

Davidson or Fox deserves a lot of blame for not adjusting the formations after it was obvious they were just overloading up the middle on the blitz. But Jake is a veteran and should know he has to get rid of it quick in those situations or just take the sack. I wasn't at the game so I can't comment on what pass patterns were called but I hope there were short comebacks and slants called often to help Jake. If not, that's another thing to blame on the coaching.

OK so whats your explanation for the run game, or lack thereof? Oh, this thread was not created to defend Jake either, just point out another aspect of patheticness.

Oh, You mean when we stopped running the ball and decided to throw on every third down? This was one of those games where a punt would have been a good play. Instead we decided to let Jake throws towards Smith in triple coverage and get picked off. This happens everytime. Happened with Arizona, happened in ATL. We are down by 1 touchdown by a nonoffensive play by the other team, the team loses focus, for some reason the play calling becomes centered around the pass instead of the run, and Jake shows us that he's not confident in our other receivers. Pass Blocking would not be a concern if we maul their line down for a quarter or two.

A great example of this is Alabama vs. Virginia Tech a couple weeks ago. Alabama was down right awful early against VT. They had a hard time stopping the VT pass rush, hard time running the ball. But they didn't stop. They made their stops on Defense. And PLAYED THE GAME OUT. Eventually by the fourth quarter, since the VT offense had been kept in check most of the entire game, their defense was tired as f**k, the pass rushes were no longer working and even their run defense dwindled and Alabama's run game that was nearly nonexistant in the first half made a surprising entrance. Alabama trailed by one point going into the fourth quarter. They won by 10 and could have easily put up more.

We pretty much gave the eagles what they wanted by passing so much after that play. We let them pin their ears back and come at us. And guess what, Jake wasn't sacked that much last year, he was one of the fewest sacked QBs and majority of the reason to that is because we ran the ball A LOT. That was our success, that was our bread and butter, and everytime we've shied away from it, it's lead to this. We're trying way too hard to become an offensive powerhouse and becoming so well balanced when we don't need to.

I definitely could have also said the coaching staff. After down 17-7, we pretty much ran the ball up the middle for 3 yards on first down and passed on second and if we got to third down, passed then too.

I think Jake was sacked 20 times last year, fewer than most but he dropped back fewer than most teams also. The oline was terrible no doubt about it, coaching staff just as bad or worse, and Jake even worse, all pretty damn bad.

Yeah, cause a tipped ball is always the QB's fault. Yes, the others were, but man, at least write the truth.

Are you referring to the ball Smith tipped because it was so far behind him he could barely touch it? Or are you referring to the screen pass where Jake waited too long to throw it and then tried it anyway with hands in his face? One was a poor throw, the other a poor decision, both by Jake.

OK the Oline did play horrible, but as I ponder about it more and more, the coaching staff WAS WORSE than Jake yesterday. No adjustments, and we kept running the same plays over and over. They worked once, and by the time we lined up in the exact same formation, the defense at it up like they knew what was coming. We ran the exact same wildcat play twice, pulling to the left and it got ate up, didnt matter who ran it.

the one to smith. Yes, both were poor throws, poor decisions, made under pressure. Without the tip, it wouldn't have been an INT.

the offensive line.

Very little to no push on running plays, penalties, and terrible pass protection. Could not pick up on the blitzes, I didn't think any one of the sacks were a coverage sack. Jake played horrible, but the o-line did nothing to help him, D-Will or Stewart out. Even out only TD was bad blocking turned good run. We couldnt even punch it in at the end of the game.

On another note, defensively, it appears on defense we are having more trouble with off tackle runs more than runs directly up the middle.

Said this in another thread, needs to be said again. Until we have a QB that teams have to respect, it will be this way.

We have a top 2 running game, no question, but a crappy QB that is physically and mentally done. So... teams are going to load the box, overload our OL which = no push in the running game. It also means excessive pressure on Jake.

Double up Steve Smith, run/ pass blitz and its game over for our offense.

Jakes blow up in the playoff game last year showed teams how to defense us. MAKE US THROW.

A veteran starting QB in the NFL should be expected not to fumble or throw interceptions, even when his blocking sucks.

Before anything else, his first job is to protect the ball. That much is elementary.

Did the line underperform? I've seen nothing written here to convince me of it. A good quaterback PUNISHES a blitzing defense by stepping into shotgun, and throwing accurate passes to aan inadequately covered wide receiver.

Jake tried that at least twice.....guess what? Interception. He is not accurate anymore.
