You guys are being naive if you don't think this article hits on great points as far as the old south vs cam.

It's not that there's no legitimacy in the "old south" nature.

Sure there is in general, and certain circles (especially going back to him drafted)

However, the article was reaching, and appeared to try to make Cam's alleged 'turnaround', much more dramatic (due to race, hate, and poor play personality clashing), than the actual reality and his examples.

The reason the wfnz producers are relavent  is that they here the calls that get filtered out. So if their were residents who do or did not like Newton for whatever reason they would have heard them. It makes logical sense that they would be a source for this article.

Generally I'd say the article is lazy though. It's just a manufactured story to fill space.

My point still stands about some of the calls being staged for ratings. Yes, I know they get callers who are legit, but the majority of the people who call that station aren't even Panther fans.

Bingo!

That's what you meant by "staged". LOL

Cause as you said, most of the people claiming to be Panther fans on that stations are straight up liars. LOL

Hell, most people who call in, claim they're fans, or originally fans of other teams. But all of a sudden, the Cam Newton haterz are Dyed In The Wool 20 yr, exclusive Panther fans.

Yeah right! SMH

*Trying to figure out what that has to do with Cam and the city of Charlotte*

All I'm saying is that, when discussing racism, "the Old South" is an easy crutch.

I was in the Navy for years, traveled across the country and across this world.  The most open and honest area about race I've ever seen and experienced *IS* "the Old South".  Does that mean there's no longer racism in "the Old South"?  No, it does not.  All I'm saying is that race relations in "the Old South", though far from perfect, are at least more HONEST and OPEN than places like Boston or Chicago or Los Angeles or Paris or London etc. etc. etc.

Other's views on that subject may vary.  Everyone perceives things differently.

Thus quote by Rivera really says something to me "Don’t give me the 11 best. Give me the best 11.”

Love that quote from Ron. If he wins a super bowl here, he deserves a statute here.  A lot of fans wanted him gone after the beginning of the third season, I for one am glad he is the Panthers head coach.  His vision for Carolina falls in line with the big cat and now we are slowly seeing the rewards come into fruition. Keep Pounding!

Agreed.

I have no problem discussing race (when it presents itself) regarding Cam Newton.

The problem: Too many people try needlessly make it about Cam (then subsequently race). By that point, no once cares what the original argument was anymore.

Robinson, ran away with something Billick said (which he totally created on his own), by labeling it race, when Billick's original Cam based assumption was most likely wrong to begin with.

This tells you much about both Billick and Robinson. Neither one helped themselves look any better IMO.

SMH

Sadly, it is strong among my Gamecock brethren too. I think that is the biggest reason for the relative weakness of support for the Panthers in SC as compared to NC.

Yeah, it appears the Whole SEC fan base outside of Auburn Alabama (and the Charlotte area/Panther fans) hates Cam to this day. LOL

Yep. I lived around Penn State for half my life. I found the people more racist around there than I ever have in the Carolinas.

It's weird to consider at first.  But I think generations have propped themselves up by being way too comfortable stereotyping others to feel good about themselves.

The north is definitely at the center of this too..

And younger generations will eat away at the ignorance as the ignorant die off.

It's just funny seeing family members predominantly either Irish or Italian saying things that make me pause and want to hold up a mirror.
