As dedicated to real football as he was to fantasy, Mark was a passionate NFL fan and he loved his Carolina Panthers. In going to games and becoming a season-ticket holder, Mark would often tailgate with a group he had met from an online fan message board. One of the people from that board he would tailgate with, Amy, became his wife on Sept. 30, 2007.

Such was the love they had for each other, and the Panthers, that they had their wedding on a Sunday morning BEFORE a Panthers-Buccaneers game. And following the ceremony, the wedding party walked through the streets of Charlotte to the game. Davis added, "Oh, and instead of tuxes, the party wore Panthers jerseys and Amy rocked her wedding dress all the way through the game."

Not surprisingly, his motto was "Keep Pounding." Even as Mark kept fighting cancer, his love of football kept him sane, Davis remembered. "I work in the hospital and he spent several weeks here in the end. I spent many hours talking to him. And no matter what his current state was, it didn't take long for him to start talking about his beloved Panthers or who he should keep for Apocalypse Meow, his fantasy team. I love that he was staying positive about the future, worrying about keepers, up until the end."

Matthew Berry starts off his fantasy love/hate article this week about a guy named Mark from Ashe county that used to tailgate with guys he met from an online message board before he passed away.

Was that guy a Huddler or is it a different board?

RIP Mark, keep pounding.

I did not personally know him but a lot of old timers did. He posted mostly on a different board but was a superfan of the Panthers and a great guy to party with at Tailgates.  He would have been all over the Roaring Riot tailgates.

There is an absolutely iconic shot of him in a sea of Tampa puke orange right behind the goal post as we upset them at their house off the SB win.

The thread Jake posted is filled with info.  (makes me wonder Jakes previous handle!)

Awesome find by you though and great write up by Berry.

Myself, I suffer from long term loss of both short term and long term memory.  Do not believe anything other than an occasional snippet from me.  Mark was buds with E9, a great poster.  And if anyone can recall the guy I was talking about that had the heart attack right after our merge into the south, I would appreciate it!

I suffer from the same affliction. I actually remember the thread Jake posted now that I saw it.

This place has gone downhill since jangler=fat stopped coming around.

Right after the Panthers came into existence, and I pledged allegiance, I had to move to Reno.

Message boards were my lifeblood and they started with the AOL boards and the email server list.  Mr. Scot and Linda and a bunch of others.  I never spent any time on the observer boards though, which has probably saved the few brain cells I have left.  Mark was a part of that and he was "one of the good ones" .....as old timers say.

Nah, I have no idea.

After you said his username I just Google searched his name + carolina huddle and that thread was the first result.

well, pie for honesty then!  Alvarez is the one to contribute but this is a great thread to realize just what a special season this is.  I'm thankful for Panther fans past, present and future!
