This isn't meant to sound like a dig at the NBA but it's definitely more  player-centric than team-centric when compared to football.

Yea, I think it's mostly always been that way.  At least from my perspective.  I've never been a fan of an NBA team, I was a Tarheel fan first (family tradition), so I was a Jordan fan for his career, then when he retired for good I tried to hang on to enjoying the NBA by taking Shaq as my favorite player (I liked him from the start and would cheer for him when he wasn't playing Jordan, but Jordan always was and always will be my favorite) and Vince Carter as my #2 but basketball couldn't hold my attention for more than a few more years after Jordan was gone.

With only 5 players at a time, basketball is much more super star driven.  I've always said football is the ultimate team sport, and that's why it's the only sport I still and probably ever will follow.  I don't even follow college sports at all anymore (no taste for watching b-ball anymore at all, and I could never get into college football for some reason.)
