No I've never needed more memory. But I store my music and stuff elsewhere. There is an app though called Nexus Media Importer which will allow you to use an external memory device like a flash drive or hdd.

My son has the 2013 version, fully up to date with Marshmallow. Well... HAD it, as it's now fried after he got it wet then immediately plugged it in. I don't recall him ever complaining about it being slow.

Hint: if you ever get a tablet or phone wet, plugging it in is the absolute worst thing you can do.
