Warriors @ Hornets Game(day) Thread

Well, I promised I wouldn't come into this forum anymore talking basketball, but seeing as my boys are coming to town tonight to play your boys, it seemed appropriate. The game is at 7:00e/4:00p so I probably won't be off work for the beginning of it.

My Dubs HAVE to lose eventually, will it be on the road tonight against a team playing its best ball of the season? It could definitely happen.

Lets go Warriors.

Steph Curry Tampering Night should be interesting.

Wanting to see what happens with Al out for an extended period of time. Judging by last year it was generally thought that Al's ball stopping, inefficient scoring and being a complete liability on defense was what killed that season, but without him in the Bucks game on Sunday the Hornets weren't able to score inside at all and it really hindered their ability to move the ball around in the offense.

Best case scenario during the time he's out is the team plays well enough to let the FO know the team can move on without him for good. My fear is that if the opposite happens it will convince everyone that he needs to stay.

I'd like to get a win here but I just don't see where this roster exploits mismatches. Batum could have a good game, Kemba could go UConn and Lamb could get hot off the bench and I'm still not sure the Hornets would win this.

Also apparently today is the anniversary of the Warriors terminating Sprewell's contract in 1997 after he choked Carlesimo, so there's that.

Hoping Lin gets more time to guard Curry then Kemba. I imagine there will be a lot of Charlotte Curry jerseys in the stand as well. I believe it's a Dell Curry t-shirt promotion as well, so kudos to the Marketing team for scheduling that with Curry's only game in Charlotte.

Also the debut of the black jerseys, which are awesome once you get over the fact that they have to wear sleeves.

I don't think the Warriors have lost a game while wearing their alternate sleeved "slate" jerseys, and I still hate them.

waiting for Curry to come out and remove his warmups to reveal a Hornets jersey and then he DDTs Klay Thompson and Dremond Green, then he gives Luke Walton the Stunner and gives him the middle finger Stone Cold Style, then he stands on the scorers table and drinks three beers at once, then pukes and proceeds to drop 40 on the Warriors in a cruel twist of fate, giving them their first loss of the season.

All that and no inclusion of Cam?

...and just as Curry is soaking it in with the home crowd going wild, Steve Kerr comes out of the crowd with a baseball bat. OMG STEVE KERR IS BACK. Kerr is wielding the bat, point his finger at Curry ....then the lights go out and a mummer falls over the crowd....the lights come back on, and my god, ITS CAM ITS CAM. Cam Newton is standing next to Curry and the crowd loses their mind! Cam and Steph look at each other and nod, then put their fingers around Kerr's neck for a double choke slam!!!  The two stars rise their arms in victory and the camera fades.

This is only acceptable if Cam goes on to lead the Panthers to a super bowl win. Otherwise I'm against it.

    • Exactly the type of thing he would have done here. The excuse people were stannin’ so hard claiming he would have looked just as bad. Just not true.
    • Yes and there aren't 32 starting QBs in the league either. Too many teams and too many games. The NFL has regressed over the years and game quality is lacking. The other leagues are supposed to be farm leagues but it doesn't matter. You just won't have 32 no matter what they do. The move to super athletes playing QB at all levels has lead to this. It used to be those guys played other positions but now they are QBs who can't really QB.  It has a trickle down effect too. OL can't block because they never had to. The fact that in today's game your QB must be able to run at least a little to survive is evidence of this as well. IMO they have ruined the game same as with the NBA. It's been simplified to the point of being boring.  Just look at the top 10 this season. Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs) Joe Burrow (Bengals) Josh Allen (Bills) Lamar Jackson (Ravens) Dak Prescott (Cowboys) Jalen Hurts (Eagles) Brock Purdy (49ers) Jordan Love (Packers) Justin Herbert (Chargers) Matthew Stafford (Rams) Once we get to number 5 the stats look like this: 167 262 1,845 63.7 7.0 10 8 65 18 84.5   47.5   10 TDs and 8 INTs??? At number 5??? There was a time not that long ago that he wouldn't even be a starter.
    • I'm not convinced that the NFL is any better or worse at developing QBs now than they were 20 years ago.  I mean I'm sure there are some developmental issues at play, just not sure it is any different than it has been. The biggest difference IMO is that NFL teams are waaaaaaaay more willing to invest a 1st round pick into a QB now than they were 15-20 years ago.  A guy like Colin Kaepernick would probably be a top 5 pick in 2025, whereas he went in the 2nd in 2011.  Would a guy like Trey Lance go top 3 in 2010?  Hell no.  Look at Russell Wilson - he didn't go until the 3rd round.  The standard for being a 1st round QB has dropped. So it may seem like we're seeing more high-profile busts at the position, but we're also seeing teams reach for QBs way more than they have in the past.  Someone with Anthony Richardson's college resume doesn't go in the top 3 20 years ago.
