My two cents: Jake will and should still be our man.

For those of you that can take a step off the Jake hate bandbwagon and start talking about realistic options that we have in order to salvage this season I think its pretty clear to see that Jake is deffinitely going to be our best option for the remainder of the season.

First of all Sunday's turnovers were clearly not all Jake's fault. Like someone else has already stated you could have put Payton Manning, Brady or another QB in those situations and the same thing would have happened. The O Line stunk and none of our QBs had any protection. If it wasn't obvious before the benching, it should be when the next two QBs had the same exact problem Jake did.

Which is why Jake is the number 1 option. He has more experience, he has the training, and ironically its the fact that he has stunk up this bad before that actually makes him the right choice. He's come back from these days before. The back ups have not had to deal with anything like this and its probably going to take throwing away a minimum of 6-7 games if not the entire season to get either McCown or Moore to adjust to something like this. With Jake it usually costs us about 4.

Realistically speaking that is not something the coaches can afford to do after losing your first game with 15 to go.

Having said I am making a statement that if either Fox, Jake or Hurney are all together on this team next year I will have no interest in watching any of their games. This has been a long time coming. We have been in need of a decent QB since before Delhommme came into the picture. He was afterall a backup himself....and they should have been looking for a QB of the future 6-7 years ago. Instead they waited and waited and here we are today in exactly this kind of predicament. They see that and the reason they gave Jake an extension is because they have no choice. They need a minimum of 3 years to find and train a QB. Neither one of our backups are that guy, imo. They are both stinkers. That is just terrible manangement because they haven't even found the right guy to be training under Jake. That is the sad part. And that is why he got such a long extension. We're going to need a year or two just to find him.

But in all honesty it does not matter who we find, or who we trade for, if our O Line continues to play like that, then Brady or Manning himself cannot save us or win us a game. Those O line problems that were evident in the preason got exposed even more today.

One thing I did like on Sunday and I hope it continues throughout the season is this. When Jake starts having one of his days....bench him and bring him Moore. Every time and every game that happens. That should have started happening about 4 years ago.

Stop with this "the O-Line" sucked. That's true, but as I've said on another thread, the O-Line doesn't read the coverage, doesn't hang on the ball for too long and doesn't fumbles the ball every other time.

p.s. on a deep in by Moose ( one of the few complete passes to a teammate ), the O-Line gave him SIX seconds...

I find it hilarious that the Jake slurpers keep wanting to focus on the offensive line. Yes the offensive line was bad, but they were like a bad case of poison ivy while Jake's play was a cancer. Why are you guys more concerned about a bad case of poison ivy that can and will clear up than the cancer that's killing you?

Plenty of O-Lines have sucked throughout the history of the NFL. Not many QBs have had 5 and 4 INT performances consecutively. In fact, that may be a record. 9 in two games?

Its not just the last two games. Jake didn't play well for most of the second half of last season. He had bad games against Detroit, Oakland, Atlanta, and Tampa. The only good games he had were against Green Bay, New Orleans, and Denver's awful defense. And in most of those games, our running game was clicking to such an extent, that it should have been easy to throw.

Also Jake's accuracy on long throws is not what it once was. Smith had a step on the Philly receiver on that long interception, and Jake completely underthrew him. I wonder if the injury has had more of an effect than he let on.

The O line does not read coverage and they may have given Jake 6 seconds to throw but on two occasions they gave the opponent about 1.5 seconds to get to our QB untouched. Go back and watch the replays. Untouched. Twice.

Jake had enough time to move his head left then right...before he could re-center his vision there was already a guy tackling him that came through untouched straight down the freaking middle.

Heck Peyton Manning had 6 interceptions versus the Chargers awhile back. And honestly if he was playing for us yesterday he probably would have had 6 more.

And no I am not appologizing for Delhomme. I have been wanting a new QB for years. But I am also not ignorant to the facts. And the fact is our O line sucked. No QB will fix that. Period.

There were protection problems, but it doesn't excuse 4 int's and a fumble. The QB's # 1 job is to protect the football.

With that being said, I'm not ready to give up on Jake yet.

I don't want to hear this garbage about comparing Jake to elite QB's. You show me some average QB's that have had 11 TO's in back-to-back games and then I'll consider that Jake isn't the worst QB in the league.

I've only witnessed one QB that was that bad before, a starting QB on a local semi-pro team that I was the statistician for. In 6 games he had 3 TD's, 19 INT's and 5 fumbles lost.

I do not understand you people. How can the OL sucking horribly NOT have a negative affect on the play of the QB? None of our 3 QB's had time to do anything at all! It wasn't just Jake. Yes, he played horribly. The alternatives to his INT's and fumble were probably at least 4 (additional) sacks. The game still would have been a loss, with maybe a few less points.

If our OL could have given Jake, or whoever, at least a couple of seconds to even step back then maybe it would have been better. But OMG! the OL is the biggest reason we got stomped. No QB can play well under that situation, much less an average one.
