Anyone notice that the defense actually had an OK game?

I thought the defense would be the ones that sucked ass today...but they hung in there considering the bad circumstances they were continually put in...minus the Joke DelLame turnovers, the D probably would have held the Eagles to under 20. I love how Meeks was trying to cause confusion, moving around Peppers, Charles Johnson at DT, and Hayden was holding his own. Of course when Joke Dellooser tossed the game away, they lost their morale and tanked down the stretch. But overall I give them a C+.

They gave up almost 200 yards rushing.

They gave up easy tds.

They gave up almost 5 yards on every first down.

They faced a back up qb for 40 percent of the game.

Dont be fooled by the eagle receiver drops either it was much worse than it appeared.

It was a horrible game. But given the circumstances and seeing their body language mid way threw the second quarter I cant put much of it on them, this time.

Uhm actually I was surprised by the defense as well. The scoring drives for the eagles were like 18 yards, 10 yards, 9 yards, and 1 yard drive (when we stopped them after a turnover and they got one yard and kicked a field goal). I think they only sustained one long drive, so honestly, with the short fields they were given, I thought overall they looked much improved from the preseason. I have hope that they could eventually become very good down the stretch.

When you look at the Philly "drives" it's apparent just how badly this game was given away and that the D had little chance.

---------------------------------

Philadelphia Field Goal - 49-yarder by David Akers. 0:53 Time Remaining. (4 plays, 1 yards. Time of Drive: 1:48)

2nd Quarter

Philadelphia Touchdown - 2-yard fumble return by Victor Abiamiri. (David Akers extra point is good). 14:52 Time Remaining.

Philadelphia Touchdown - 85-yard punt return by DeSean Jackson. (David Akers extra point is good). 10:57 Time Remaining.

Philadelphia Touchdown - 9-yard pass from Donovan McNabb to Brent Celek. (David Akers extra point is good). 9:55 Time Remaining. (1 plays, 9 yards. Time of Drive: 0:06).

Philadelphia Touchdown - 4-yard pass from Donovan McNabb to Brian Westbrook. (David Akers extra point is good). 3:16 Time Remaining. (10 plays, 74 yards. Time of Drive: 4:27).

Philadelphia Touchdown - 3-yard run by Donovan McNabb. (David Akers extra point is good). 6:59 Time Remaining. (3 plays, 10 yards. Time of Drive: 1:22).

what the hell do you expect the defense to do. they were screwed right out of the gate. the game was over at halftime thanks to turnovers. and the special teams coach needs his butt kicked. It is beyond me about the this team. talent on both sides of the ball. Maybe it will take the fans tear crap up before they change. JD has 1 more shot. 1 more. if he effs it up next week in ATL, they had better do something. and it has nothing to do with the "true fan" argument. You know, if you were a true fan.... its seems that i had a little outburst. I just went Kanye West on here. sorry. im done.

The secondary still has bad positioning and timing the dropped passes were lucky breaks because no one was getting to the receiver in time to break up the pass with a deflection or a hard tackle. Godfrey had one almost pick and that was one of the best plays by anyone behind the line not named Davis or Beason.

Also other than Pep I've yet to see one good attempt at stripping the ball (though I could've missed some).

For the most part, the defense did what they could. Giving up two TDs from your own 9 yard line both instances isn't a confidence builder. Especially when in the back of your mind your wondering how many more times you'll be put in this position today...

Considering that, the defense did what they could. I was worried about the tackling going into the game, and they did a great job. I don't recall any guy we got our hands on breaking a tackle yesterday. Gamble shut down DJax completely on offense outside of the Wildcat.

Props to Gamble, Peppers, Beason, and Davis... Great effort by those guys considering the circumstances.

Addendum: Of course we really didn't get to see much as has already been pointed out and overall they did fairly well. My last post seemed a bit harsh but please don't take it as me bashing the D. They looked like maybe we actually had some potential this year but there just weren't enough plays where we had acceptable field position to really judge them.

Remind me to come back and rep you for this. Anyone who blames the defense for this loss is delusional. If anything, I'm more optimistic about our defense after this game.

our d didnt look that bad.....pep and td was all over the field. what scares me is our corners letting wr get open.there were to many times were eagles wr were naked but dropped the ball or mcnabb couldn't get it to them....they were put in bad positions the whole game..........pep earned his million yesterday too.
