The end of an era...

With all the anger going around about Jake I thought I'd take a look at his career with us to see if there is a significant difference after his Tommy John surgery. What I found was a little shocking. Before the surgery Jake played in 71 games as a Panther and had a 59% completion precentage and averaged 219 yards per game, 1.5 TD's and .9 INTs per game. Since the surgery Jake has played in 18 games and has completed 58% of his passes while averaging 198 yards per game, .8 Td's and 1.17 INTs per game.

So what does this tell us? There is something wrong with Jake that isn't physical, which is probably worse. Jake's numbers have been pretty much stayed the same before and after the sugery, except his TD to INT ratio has flip flopped. It's easy to sit back after today's game and say, "Well, mark this one down as one of 'those' games that we play in every year." But this feels different. Watching Jake on the sidelines was awful and it really made me think of a guy who just doesn't have it anymore. It crushes me because I look at my son in his tattered Jake jersey looking at the TV and saying "hey dad, there's my guy." I shook my head remorsefully and said, yeah son, that's your guy.

I really feel bad for Jake and I know there's a possibility that he bounces back from this weeks game and plays decent. But the numbers will tell you that he has never been a great QB. His completetion percentage is way below average, and he has such a tendency to single handedly lose games for us. I wish I could say that the oline hurt us today but I would only be fooling myself. Jake holds onto the ball far too long and makes bad decisions under pressure...if you don't agree with me look at Big Ben and how he moves in the pocket and how he recognizes the blitz and still makes good throws.

At this point I feel like we have no choice but start Matt Moore and see what he's got. If he isn't the guy then we need to find Jake's replacement in the offseason. Its looks as if it is the end of an era, the most successful QB in Panther history may be at the end of the road. Its been fun Jake, sad to see you go.

i had to explain the same thing to my 4-year old at the game today. he too, with his little worn delhomme jersey. his eyes watered up and he asked me why jake was getting booed so bad, he kept telling me to tell the people to stop booing. hard to explain to a little one. it really almost hit me hard at one point. man, the innocence of a little child. if you dont have little children, you dont understand.

My son is 4 years old too, and I had a Jake Delhomme McFarlen Action Figure that he has wanted to play with for so long. I finally let him take it out of the box minutes before kickoff. He played with that toy the entire game. It absolutely killed me.

I feel bad for Jake too.. I have supported him STRONGLY and today was the 1st day I had to admit to myself that it looks like Jake's time is coming to a close... cue the music

Jake Delhomme as much as I love him is competitive, and played well for a short period, but this team needs to find better options. Everything on this team is ready to go to the next level and we're a safe quarterback away from being a top tier team. These turnovers have got to stop or we're headed to watching our first rounder earn the 49ers a great player.

Got to say, I've been a Jake supporter all summer (here on the upper side), saying it was just one game (Cardinals playoff game). But it looks like Jake is picking up where he left off at last years playoff game.

I'm turning towards the dark side. And beginning to ask for the head of Dehommey. I was hoping a year after the Tommy John surgery would help. After todays game, I'm not so sure.

There is no doubting that Jake is on the downward section of his career. That is not to say that he is finished as a starter but his best is behind him now I feel and more and more eyes will be looking to the future at QB.
