19-7 vs. 38-10: A Tale of F*cking Ourselves

No answer to the repeated (and obvious) blitzes was the problem moreso than anything else imo.

No we tried to run HB screens to slow them down. One time it worked. Next time they shadowed Williams and Jake lobbed it 3 yards out for an INT.

That's why I mentioned, even though Pennington was getting the same amount of pressure from ATL, he didn't fold. He killed the down and moved on.

Jake threw an INT on a HB SCREEN?!?!? Then they knew they didn't have to respect that either. I honestly though, have always thought we ran the most poorly executed HB screens in the NFL. And yesterday showed that.

There are more ways to exploit blitzes than just the screen which is going to be keyed on and defended. I would think that to beat a scheme like Philly's you need to have a variety of quick pass plays so that the quick pass cannot be identified early and stopped while they still blitz more guys than we have blockers.

Jake throwing an int on a screen is facepalm worthy though.

it is amazing how we keep putting the game in Jake's hands with one of the NFL's best running games. But, that will be needed from time to time to keep defenses honest. so why not setup plays that are easy for Jake to coplete? on a 2nd and 7, why take a shot in the end zone to Moose?! if they are sending the house all day on the blitz, then short drop backs or screens (where was barnidge yesterday?) would be a better adjustment than nothing.

I am a huge panthers fan, and always will be, but Fox is causing me to go crazy. we are simply out coached most of the time. our roster is immesly talented (starters anyways) and there is no reason to get owned like this the first game with everyone healthy for the most part

Yeah I got you. I was just pointing out that the only play they tried to calm the blitzes down was the HB Screen, albeit, poorly executed. I think a mix of WR Screens, Slants, curls, and flares out to the flats would've done that. Moore was the only QB yesterday that appeared to look for those routes when the primary was gone. But, I can't say that for sure, b/c at times it didn't look like those routes were being ran when Jake was in. IDK...

I still think they should've just left Jake in the shotgun after those first two turnovers until they backed off some. There are still major flaws in our offensive philosophy when the run is abandoned.

Definitely agree. I remember thinking yesterday once Philly started blitzing heavily that we needed to stick Jake in for the shotgun to see if we could get Philly to spread out for our run game.

You did not see the whole game that 19-7 should have been 33-7! We missed 2 FGs an extra piont and a wide open TD pass. But I get your point. I said 4 months ago the all you have to do is get pressure on Jake and it is pick city! Of course I was called every name under the sun for it!:)

Moore is a 3rd string QB; nothing more. He is not the answer, and he isn't this wonderful savior everyone attempts to make him into. We have no answer at QB right now; and without any good draft picks next year it doesn't look like we'll have one any time soon.

I agree with this one 100%. Moore is alright, but he is not the answer. I mean if Jake looks like this again, then nobody can be any worse. The problem is and has been Fox and Hurney have failed to address the need for a QB of the future for the Panthers and now it might be the year if finally comes around to bite them in the ass.

Again.. I don't think many of us were happy when a Saints backup ( Brooks' backup!!! ) got the starting job 6 years ago. And even less were ready to say that that same guy was ready to lead the team to the Superbowl...

I'm not going to say that Moore will bring us to the Superbowl, but you're already quitting on someone who never got a real chance, and when started for us, did fairly well
