19-7 vs. 38-10: A Tale of F*cking Ourselves

***THIS ISN'T A BASH JAKE THREAD, IT'S ABOUT THE GAME***

I made this point to my friend during the game, and on The Observers' postgame comment threads. But when it was obvious that Jake had flushed our efforts down the toilet with his performance, I had switched back and forth to the ATL/MIA game.

ATL was putting just as much pressure on the Dolphins, maybe even more, as Philly was putting on us. The final score of their game 19-7. Ours was obviously 38-10. How did that happen?

Every time I switched back to their game and MIA had the ball, I promise you on about 4 different occasions switching back during commercials, I saw Pennington either throw the ball at a receivers feet, throw out of bounds, or just take the sack with dignity to live another down. On at least 3 of those occasions, they were set up slip screens with the HBs or WRs. He did the smart thing.

Jake and McClown locked onto a receiver, when it wasn't there they seemed to be content with holding the ball until hopefully, that receiver came open. Or in Jake's case, he didn't feel like waiting and just threw a loaf of bread up for the defense to feast on. If he waited, he apparently stayed locked onto the same receiver and that's why he fumbles so frequently when sacked.

Now, I know the Dolphins lost. But my point is, there is so much pride involved. We all pull for the Panthers because they are apart of us. Like family. We support them and we love them, we're tied to this team emotionally. We didn't just lose, like the Dolphins, we got BLOWN THE F*CK OUT. I could've walked away feeling a lot better losing 19-7 than 38-10. I could've at least had hope for what we could do ahead. All b/c the "game managers" we have, including McClown, don't manage the game. Pennington doesn't have a rocket arm, but he makes his reads and plays smart and CHECKS DOWN.

That's why I've always liked what I've seen from Moore throughout his time here (aside from some preseason games). He seems to show up gametime. He reads the defense and takes what the defense gives him, accurately for the most part. Turnovers kill any hope of winning.

I also wanted to mention the link between turnovers and getting blown out, b/c while all the turnovers except maybe 1 were at the QBs discretion, a lot of the playcalling contributed to it. No flow to it. Many times, it seemed as though there wasn't even a "check down" guy in the flats. And one of those last sacks on Jake on a 3rd down before he threw another INT, I just kept wondering, "Why is he lined up under center?" With the day he was having, why not give him a headstart at seeing what's coming by lining him up in shotgun? It made no sense.

While we all have probably called for someone's job during our fandom with our team, I have never been more serious - There are some people on the chopping block. This isn't just talk anymore, or a few angry fans... This is an outpouring of emotion regarding this team that we've never seen before. A lot of things have to change, and quick... Or I honestly don't think Big Cat will allow some people to make it through the season.

I give Delhomme 2 more quarters of bad play before I put in Moore OVER McCown. Moore is more decisive and can put a bit more zip on the ball.

Moore has a pretty good record as a starter. There is no way we can afford another meltdownif it happens again I'd make him sit. Fox would think such a move to be much to drastic although his hand may be forced if McCown misses time.

Nice post. Many of us feel the same way, but the big cat is not going to can Fox,Hurn,Jake mid-season. I truly believe the best we can hope for going forward is that we have a diamond in the rough in Moore and he just need some reps with the ones in practice and during the games. Otherwise, it just another lost season under this regime. If that turns out to be the case, I can only hope that this is the last season of the three-headed monster.

Moore is a 3rd string QB; nothing more. He is not the answer, and he isn't this wonderful savior everyone attempts to make him into. We have no answer at QB right now; and without any good draft picks next year it doesn't look like we'll have one any time soon.

At least someone else realizes that the John Fox "system" doesn't rely on anything other than an average QB. What we need is a Trent Dilfer or a Kerry Collins. Just someone to take care of the ball and manage the offense while the running game and defense do the heavy lifting.

However, instead we've kept the world's worst version of everything bad about Brett Favre for too long.

And Jake was the backup of an awful QB... so?

And BTW, the run got stopped because we don't have a QB that commands the respect of the other team. Then they can keep blitzing us, just like they did.
