Panthers have signed LS Danny Aiken, but JJ Jansen looks good to go.

Glad Jansen is ready.

Is it possible Aiken is cut before the plane boards? That would be funny.

Sounds like maybe the signing took place last night before any news on Jansen came out.

We had 52 on the roster so he just takes the open spot and my assumption is that he travels to Dallas and will go if JJ wakes up on Thursday with headaches or anything like that. He'd then be cut for OL depth to replace Amini after the game.

I actually wouldn't put it outside the realm of possibility that both JJ and Aiken are active tomorrow just in case JJ takes a hit in the game.

Talk about a waste of an active spot.  I know it's a contingency in this scenario, but has to sting if a team feels the need to keep a second long snapper active on gameday.

Luke did practice as a backup long snapper in college...

It's not ideal, but I'm sure we would manage. We are down an active OL from last sunday so Aiken would just take that spot and probably Delaire would be inactive to make way for Charles Johnson rather than putting CJ in Amini's active spot.

I don't really understand how a LS can be out minus a broken bone tbh.

just bend over and snap the ball and back pedal if u have to, just don't let your guy get passed u.

Am I missing something here?

To start, you're missing the whole tackling aspect of punt coverage.

Disagree.

A bad long snap on a punt can do some real damage in a game (i.e. easy points for the opponent).

I get the importance. I'm just saying that active jerseys are valuable and having an LS active who ultimately may not play, be it JJ or new guy, stings. Definitely an unusual situation.

I get that.

Best I can say is if both are active (which would surprise me) then whomever is deactivated will likely be somebody on the lower end of the roster.
