Captain America: Civil War

Best movie of the year. Absolutely crushed Dawn of Justice in every way. It's in Guardians of the Galaxy tier of best marvel movie for me. Marvel knows how to treat it's heroes. None of the heroes felt under-developed or wrongly used. Holy crap it was so good I can't stress that enough. Like with dawn of Justice the run time was the same but it felt so dragged out. Civil war was amazing for every minute of the 2 and a half hours.

(Spoilers) One of the coolest parts of the movie for me personally was how many things they borrowed from the comics. Peggy's eulogy is straight from Cap himself in the comics and is considered to be the defining speech in Cap history and I was shocked and amazed it was in there. Then you had the shot near the end with Tony's repulsors blasting off Cap's shield which is straight from the cover of Civil War #1. Lot of great moments in there.

This was an incredible movie. Each move in Cap's trilogy was terrific. Cap has always been my guy and to think he's the proud owner of the greatest superhero trilogy of all time, likely never to be replaced, that is a surreal thing for me.

It was completely ridiculous and contrived.

  • Why didn't the Government and Tony Stark care about Hawkeye who was also brainwashed and killed innocents? The Hawkeye thing was mostly kept on the DL, while Winter Soldier put himself way out there in Cap2, so it was way more noticable.  SHIELD has always done a good job, before it fell, at keeping things in the shadows.   Not to mention a few days compared to decades of Winter Soldier terrorism.
  • Why didn't the government care about Tony Stark who has killed countless people? They kind of need Stark, for a lot of reasons.   The technology his company provides, etc.   He also has a lot of pull because of this and, being rich.  Just like real life.   Also, if you watched the movie, he agreed to sign the papers.
  • The entire big fight scene dumb - You went to a superhero movie and was appalled by a ..... fight scene?  This isn't War and Peace.
  • Antman, Spiderman, and Hawkeye literally show up out of nowhere - Antman has ties to Falcon from the Ant-Man film (did you watch?).  He was on the radar as soon as that happened, and was probably investigated and vetted.  Spider-Man has been watched for a while by Stark, probably for the same reasons, investigation and vetting to see who is threat.   Stark has access to the best technology, I'm sure he could easily use satillites and whatnot to track where Peter goes back home.   He's also new at this and probably made mistakes which made it easier to find him.   Hawkeye, they knew where he was, heck we KNEW where he was from Avengers 2.  Did you watch this?
  • Tony sees a youtube video and somehow figures out who spiderman really is - Read above.  You really think all he used was a youtube video?  They don't really need to hand-hold us to make assumptions here.  Stark has the technology.
  • Zemo just happens to kill a superheros father, the odds of that has to be slim - Huh?   It was unexpected, out of nowhere, it's not that hard to believe.
  • Why would Crossbones kill himself? - So he doesn't get locked up at the raft.  Also because he blames Cap and them for what they did to him.
  • Why would Antman risk dying for a man he has never met? - He knows Falcon.  They also acted like they've been in contact a little bit, even had a nickname.  The movie is only 2 hours and such, did you want a "bro" flashback of Lang and Wilson going bowling together and bonding?  Also, EVERYONE knows Cap.   Also, if you know history from the first Ant-Man movie, Pym isn't a fan of Stark, so Lang probably knows the inside information on this guy.  Plus, it's Cap, everyone trusts him.  Stark used to sell weapons to the world.
  • Why paralyze War Machine if you're just going to make him walk again 20 minutes later? - Not sure, he's a lame character anyway, but he looks pretty rough.  Stark's tech will probably help him move.   There needed to be some kind of bad event after that fight, and you know Marvel probably don't want to kill someone off, at least not against other heroes.
  • Why would Tony Stark be chosen to lead the government avengers thing when Tony was the one who has caused more collateral damage than anyone? - Answered above.  Means, wealth, influence, and agreeing to sign.
  • Steve was right, but came off as mean and angry the entire time. Tony was wrong but was much more likable. - So the movie split the audience, where some people took one side and some took the other?  Sounds like a pretty good superhero movie to me, with some depth, instead of good vs bad we usually get . What's the problem here?  Cap probably sees this as registration, like what he fought against in WW2.  He also trusts his judgement over the government, which come on, I would too.
  • Where is Pepper Pots? - Contract negotations I bet.  But who cares?
  • Baron Zemo somehow constructs the entire conflict lol - I mean, is it that hard when you have a video of what happened and then at the same time he brings that dude out of hiding knowing Cap would do anything to save him (which isn't that crazy really).   He also kind of wins in the end too, the team IS divided.
  • Tony being completely fine with the government throwing all of his buddies in prison cells - He wasn't, actually.  When he found out they put them in the raft, he went there and apologized and even said this is for criminals.  I mean, did you not see this scene?
  • The fights were essentially pointless. Nothing changed in the end.  - What?  It's a superhero movie lol.   What changed is that Cap and Stark aren't on good terms.  The team is split.   Those were their two leaders.   There is a struggle there.  It's more than you get for most movies of this genre.   Stark won't forget that video, and will probably blame Cap and his team for Rhode getting hurt.

It was pretty much just a big dumb movie that only exists to see the marvel heroes fight each other, even that ends up being sort of lame though. I never really believed that anyone besides Steve, Tony, Bucky, and Black Panther would actually have motivation to fight. I would give it like a C rating, not a horrible waste of time, but nothing spectacular either. The masses are sure to eat it up and think it's amazing though.

The movie was great.  I'm not sure I like it better than Guardians or maybe Winter Soldier, but it's top 3/4 for me.

^ I'm glad you responsed, because some parts of that list were so dumb and obvious I half-assumed he was trolling.

He's probably trolling, judging by post count, etc.   I had a few extra minutes to spend though haha.

Also, and not to give spoilers, I loved the ending.  I had an idea all along on how it would end, and was OK with that and just assumed it would be a fun ride to get there, but they didn't take the cheesy ending.  I appreciate that.

    • Super raw, not sure he is worth a top 10 pick.  Primary a pass rusher.  A bit like Burns, very fast athletic but doesnt always follow the play.  His highlights look good but when you watch him play you can see he is just raw and needs to develop
    • Personally, I am not sold on Bryce yet--and I do not think anyone is saying they are, but I don't think Ward is on table when we draft anyway.  Not even sure if I would rather have him than one of the later QBs.  I see a lot of potential in Allar, Nussmeire, Rourke, and even Hamilton from Ohio State--Milroe is intriguing, but I am not sure he is an NFL QB.  Ewers is that sleeper who falls and becomes a solid starter. I think that we sign a veteran who has played and we draft one of these project QBs. To your point:  With that in mind, I think you have to take QB off the table in round 1, and if Bryce can string 4-5 games like KC together, we still need to draft a QB in round three or so---I really think Rourke is a great fit for this offense--he is accurate and gets the ball out quickly---he impressed me vs OSU.   Reason?  I think we may have a tough decision to make about Bryce in 2 years--will he be worth $60m?  That decision is a lot easier if you have been grooming a backup for 2 years who can play. In round 1: I am hoping for PSU's edge Abdul Carter In round 2:  I would like to see us grab a DT who can rush the passer.  Walter Nolen of Ole Miss is versatile and a bit raw. I think he could be an excellent complement to Brown. In round 3:  I would love ILB Danny Stutsman from Oklahoma.  He is a beast. With 11 picks, I would package our 4th rounders to move up into the third round and take a QB.  At the moment, I think Rourke is trending upward and he has the skills Canales seems to want in a QB.  Quick processor, quick release. I would use the fifth rounders on OL.  I know that I left out WR--however, we are getting Thielen back, XL will be improved, Coker will be improved, and Moore has been surprisingly good.  Sanders (TE) has been more than expected in the passing game.  I think we need D more than WR, and maybe we can get a veteran WR to sign or find a hidden gem late.
    • Wouldn't be surprised if he starts a couple Jets games this year with the way the Rodgers thing is going. Giants fans are pissed they didn't keep him lol. He might actually have a little bit of a market.
