Every time I watch Cole Beasley play I'm convinced I could play in the NFL.  Dude is average in every single way.  Besides, with the amount of zone we run I wouldn't be too concerned anyway.  Colin Jones is still the fastest guy on the field.

Jones IMO is classic case of track speed vs football speed.  Ask him to run in a straight-ish line and he can blaze.  Ask him to cover and he gets much slower IMO.

Why hey he is a great gunner....and unimpressive DB.

Eh.  He was a big part of our success last year when we started our streak and in the playoffs.  He's far from perfect but is more than serviceable.

This. Colin stumbling at the start of the route continues to be forgotten, and the fact that nothing like it happened again tells me it was a fluke TD.

Jones bought the hard plant step Jackson made to the outside and turned that way. Jackson went up them seam when Jones thought he was going outside. He only stumbled as he tried to recover from that, but he was straight up roasted well before the stumble. As soon as he turned his hips outside and Jackson went inside the play was over. No one in the NFL has recovery speed to catch Jackson in that situation. All the stumble did was make it look worse.

Washington has a better receiving corp overall than Dallas with a healthy Desean Jackson & Dez not being 100%.

Matchup comes down to our D-Line vs. their O-Line.  Romo will complete passes if he has enough time, but he's not a god back there.  He's a 35 year old QB with a gimpy back coming back from a significant injury on a short week.

If our defense can shut down Rodgers for 3 Quarters, we can shut down Romo for 4.  Our pass rush was definitely more encouraging on Sunday versus the last few weeks, so hopefully that contines especially with CJ coming back.

I'm not bashing him.  I think he is one of the best special teamers in the NFL.  I think it hurts when we have to thrust him into big DB roles b/c it takes him off the field doing what he excels at.

I just think his great speed doesn't show when playing DB.  Track speed vs football speed.  He can be serviceable.

I'm perfectly comfortable with Bene moving into Tillman's outside corner spot, in some ways he's an upgrade.

That leaves the question of who fills Bene's role at NB, Colin Jones has done a relatively good job in that role but we saw what can happen when he is forced to go man-to-man with an elite WR in the slot and opponents will scheme to create this matchup going forward.

NB is a tough position, especially in our defensive scheme - not sure anyone on the street can help us at this point. I would vote to use Colin Jones and assign Norman or Bene to shadow the elite receivers to avoid a mismatch. This could force Jones to the "field" with no help, so we would need to shade a safety over his way to assist and that exposes other areas, but I think we can get away with this as long as we get good pressure on the QB.

What are you talking about? Watch the play again, as there was no hard plant and not even a head fake; Jackson ran straight with a slight outside angle and then went straight upfield, with Colin stumbling as he was turning around. Colin played outside technique since it was a Cover 1 and Coleman was in the middle of the field, exactly as he was supposed to.

Again, I'm not saying that the play was a guaranteed incompletion or anything if he had kept his footing, but the TD was a product of an ideal route by Desean vs. the coverage made easy through him stumbling.

Oh.  Duh.  Forgot what I had even said originally... That's what I get for positing from work.  Should probably get back to these mortgages in front of me.

Definitely agree with the remark in regards to track speed vs game speed.

Colin Jones gets burned by the one of the best deep threats in the entire NFL and I guess that makes him awful.

Jones had a great game except for 1 play and Dallas doesn't have a Desean Jackson.

Agreed. Jones actually slipped on the play. Being one of the fastest guys on the team, I'm not worried about him covering Beasley.
