Game Observations.. Good & Bad

We all know Jake had a horrible game. There's no denying that... I'm starting this thread separate to hear of any other obvservations/discussions to be made. I'd rather leave all the Jake hate/homer talk in the other threads and have a light chat about other things... (if that's possible) I've mentioned him in this, but let's not turn this into a thread -vs- who is right and wrong.. Chances are, as usual, both sides raise good points. Let's recognize those good points from both sides.

Here are the good that I remember (and the bad):

Perhaps pointing out that the guy who slid into McCown will be fined due to the new Brady rule, but that Matt Moore can now get in rather than McCown...

Give Munnerlyn 2 good years and he could be a solid starter. There was one play in which he put a solid tackle on McCoy and avoided a blocker with his speed to do so. Was a nice play on his part.

Jeff Davidson, give him props in the 1st QTR. The play calls were intelligent in the way of trying to loosen up the Iggle's defense. He used a lot of different formations as well. I like what I saw from him. After such a HUGE uphill battle, I can't say the last part of the game voids the 1st. Just too much to overcome. He does need to get his OLine to block better in pass situations though and straighten up his QB.. :)

Goodson was more than efficient on returning Kicks. Very pleased..

Meeks putting the LBers up on the line, giving offenses some different looks that the Panthers hadn't shown before... The Defense had a great 1st QTR (until Delhomme started). I was actually very pleased with our defense. There's no way you can expect them to keep getting the Eagles 3 and out after so much happened.

Pep had a great game (all through out the game)...

Thomas Davis, the leader of most tackles in the league (currently).. Had a few nice hits today that I'm sure the recipients will be trying to get over this week.

Beason got his 1st INT out of the way for this year...

Captain Munnerlyn and Chris Gamble were there to punt a block. The defense didn't give up, even though they were exhausted most of the game.

Our back 7 seemed to be doing a good job covering receivers during the times you notice McNabb running for yards. Our DLine got pressure in the beginning and throughout the game but we kept losing containment of McNabb. That needs fixed...

Delhomme was very inaccurate. At fault for the 1st INT. Had he been accurate, hit Smitty in stride, it would have been a different story. The 2nd INT was due to a break down in pass protection, however, Jake tossed the ball to the Eagle guy instead of holding onto the ball. Fumble, Jake again, not holding onto the ball... There was one other INT that was Jake not seeing the LBer (whoever came underneath)... The others easily rest on the OLine's shoulders. They were horrible today.

Read above about the OLine.. They couldn't keep an Eagles defender out of the backfield at all... They had their moments of success, but few and far between.

WR, I have to say the WR's weren't getting open very well on top of Jake and the OLine.. Jake held onto the ball too long quite a few times.. Either he didn't have anyone to throw to or the OLine wasn't protecting him, and/or then he made horrible decisions... A nice Earth, Wind, and Fire all on it's own, without a positive...

Damione Lewis and Brayton (can't remember if it was Brayton exactly), however, I'm sure they will be getting fined for rolling over McNabb. At first it didn't look bad, but a little later during a different camera angle it was obviously a late hit. Since it resulted in injury, I'm sure they'll be taking a look at it.

Pros

Dwill looked like himself and made a few plays even though there were no holes to run threw.

Moose is still good over the middle but he is not gonna burn anyone.

Our Long Snaper has done well.

Cons

Our ST still needs work. Letting them get a PR for a TD was heartbreaking and just adding injury to insult.

Our CBs still seem to play far off for some reason.

Our Oline was horrible. What happen to those guys......

Davidson seems to not adjust well to blitzing teams. He has still not found a way to slow them down. Still could be the lack of blocking from the OL.

Jake dose not seem to be having fun anymore like the old and him and Smith are not on the same page. Smith dose not even stand beside him on the sidelines anymore.

At the very least, that play should have been brought back. HUUUUGE block in the back as Jackson came up the field. Had that not happened, we would have been in a little better position to tackle him. But regardless, that play shouldn't have happened.

With that said, this game didn't get to where it ended by just a solid pounding. There were a few key plays that caused us to not only LOSE momentum, but just kill the whole idea of trying to compete. To which I'm proud that our defense didn't quit as tired as they had to be.

Up until those key plays I was sincerely expecting a win, other than the implosion we witnessed.

I was happy with Captain at punt returner. There was one instance when he called a fair catch and there was room to make a play, but I would rather him just make the fair catch when in doubt.

The defense played better than I expected also. Made some good plays, especially the int from beason. Those guys played hard the whole game, and tried to keep us in it. Peppers made some great plays also. The secondary held up good also. We didn't give up any big pass plays that I can think of, and forced McNabb to scramble a few times because of good coverage. We still need to do a better job of getting pressure on the qb, though.

I am not getting into the bad, I think it is pretty obvious

I'll argue about Peppers for a second.

while I actually thought he played very good and hustled all over the field. When the Eagles were successful running the ball, they ran right at Peppers. Nearly every big running play they had went to his side

At what point? They didn't run too effectively to start... Once the defense had been on the field for entirely too long, it would make sense as to why we started to get run on.

I guess my view is if he has every game like the one he had today, I'll be thrilled. He was in on a lot of run stops as well.

might be a wise strategy....put two bodies on Peppers and run at him....the rest of the DL isn't as athletic and less likely to be able to track down the runner putting it on the LBs. Run at another defensive lineman and Peppers can then pursue much better than anyone else on the DL.

    • Love Chuba,  but his agent definitely forced this move before we see Brooks play
    • A lot of regular people would like nothing better than this. Can you give me a hand with it? I've been following it for a couple of years now. In this installment, I'm going to share a couple of things that I imagine are essential to a no-win situation. That is probably worth the price of admission by itself. Believe me, I have a really great reputation. It is much more than that shift in this case. It is air tight. There aren't any quick alternatives to that diversity. Do not take that action seriously. In spite of that, I trust them as far as I can throw them. Your knockoff Immediate Matrix choices are more common today. I was worried before that. • Yeah exactly. Nothing as formal as a list but say DM was advocating for Stroud and Fitt Bryce. DM Puka and Fitt Mingo. That would probably stick with Tepp
