I think you are minimalizing people's racial bias' when it comes to football especially at the QB position. If Cam Newton were white doing the exact same thing he has been doing you wouldn't be getting racial letters written to him. You wouldn't have a story about TD dances dominate a cycle for 4+ days.

Agree. It would be largely viewed as an eccentricity, and people would say things like "did you see what that crazy bast**d did this week?".

Hell, Brett F. used to do some pretty outlandish things on the field, and people largely laughed with him.

0% percent of white people would give a poo if cam were a white QB. His actions would get rationalized and justified and then largely forgotten of. But cam is black and a black guy dancing black and winning and "rubbing" it in everyone's face is just too much for folks who don't like to see that sort of thing. Thus the ensuing media bs.

Sorry. I'm not a big believer in the whole "racist without knowing it" thing. To me that's just a way to keep playing the race card even when you don't have any evidence to support it.

well then your metric for understanding bias is completely broken because the vast majority of racists insist they aren't racist.

titans poster: "i'm not racist at all, i just want to drag cam behind my truck in chains."

mr scot: "that can't be a racist comment because he didn't admit it"

contemporary racism is a mixture of proxies and tropes and your posts on the matter will look much more informed when you recognize this

I'm assuming those Titans were black. So again, how is this a race issue?

It has more to do with peoples hatred towards Cam, period.

He never said it was a race issue. All he said was most black people and especially the ones that he knows don't have an issue or problem with what Cam does. It's mostly white folk that are doing the complaining. He also has said that when other QBs of a lighter skin complexion act out they are looked at differently. I wanted him to expand his point by bringing up examples of this. Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton this past weekend would have been great to discuss.

Code words are used a lot when it comes to white and black players in the NFL.

Example: Luke Kuechly is often talked about as not the fastest guy or the best athlete, but as a guy who excels due to his incredible football IQ. While it is true that his football IQ makes him a great player, he was the top performing LB at the combine in the 40 yard dash (4.58), vertical jump (38 inches), broad jump, 3 cone drill, 20 yard shuttle, and 60 yard shuttle.

Why is this so? QB is a predominantly white position when it comes to the players who have succeeded in the NFL. Skill positions like WR/RB are predominantly black positions. Analysts and fans tend to think that black players are more likely to excel in positions that require more athleticism while white players (this is excluding the OL and DL, as brute force and technique are the major prerequisites to play the position) are thought to have higher football IQs.

So while we see that the majority of people are fine with Cam dancing, it is pretty obvious to see that the people who do take issue with Cam's dancing are closet (but sometimes openly so) racists, who can't stand a black QB breaking the mold of the present day QB. Tom Brady screaming profanities at the refs? Fine. Aaron Rodgers discount double check? Great. Carson Palmer gyrations? Hilarious. But god forbid Cam Newton does a popular dance? Thug. It's a dance for crying out loud.

Look I have no delusions that there is a segment of our society that judges Cam and others largely on the color of their skin.  I could cite a well known political figure to support my contention, but this isn't the TB.  Obviously racism exists, it is despicable, and shouldn't be tolerated.

However, just because someone doesn't like everything Cam does, especially a fan of the opposing team, doesn't automatically make them a racist.  The Titans coach seems like a sore loser too, it he racist?  Doubt it.

Countless players, black and white, have been doing similar celebrations for years after scoring a touchdown or making a great play.   Hasn't been a big deal for years.  Cam has a personality bigger than life, he is going to attract more attention, good or bad, than the average player.  He is the closest thing the Carolinas has to a celebrity/superstar.

Get used to it, the Panthers and Cam, the face of the franchise, are getting national attention.  Comes with the territory of being 9-0.

I agree with this but at the same time when this bitch is evoking the scary black man thrusting movements (which never happened) scaring women and little girls and questioning cams mom then it alludes to her subliminally being bigoted. Which is what tee was alluding to. She is obviously not a flat out racist. Although who knows what she says or does behind closed doors.

The banner children are though. And we know who taught them. They should be banned from BoA for life.

I am going to take a wild guess and say this is not the first time this woman has made herself look like an idiot in public.

Just a guess tho'

    • Completely disagree on your Mike Jackson assessment.  There are a ton of guys that play in the slot that are great matchups for him... especially now that the tight end is essentially a third receiver.  He also is solid in run support and would hugely improve our run defense playing in the nickel.
    • Where this conversation goes south continuously and becomes bitter and contentious is when the discussion involves his "improvement". It is not hyperbole to say we started out the first two games of the season with some of the worst QB play in franchise history. We're talking amongst Jimmy Clausen. So when someone comes in and says Bryce played at such a high level in the last stretch of games he even surpassed Cam Newton as a sophomore there's not going to be any logical conversation to be had at that juncture. We can talk in a reality based context or we can talk in an echo chamber context. Only one is going to foster productive dialogue. Anyways what's done is done. We need to focus on the now. Now Bryce has an offensive line we've invested a ton of salary cap space in. He has a formidable backfield. He has a significantly improved WR room including 2 first round picks the last 2 years one being an 8th overall pick. He has one of the better TE rooms we've had in years with actual young promising talent instead of jags like Ian Thomas taking up salary cap space. He has a young up and coming offensive head coach. Honestly this is probably the best situation any QB has had entering the season since Delhomme in 2003. The foundation is there for any QB worth his salt to showcase high end franchise QB ability going forward.
