Also remember back to that picture earlier in the year that Newton posted on his instagram of himself on vacation with his friends, and the underlying stereotypes about gangs or what not that people responded to that with. Well, I think it is racism. The majority of Cam's critics are racists. Some of Cam's critics are just ignorant. When they talk about him, they try to hide behind code words as if no realizes what they're doing.

Why aren't these same people in an uproar about Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton dancing?

There is definitely some racism, I don't disagree there obviously. But there are different forms of that.

My point was more about the stereotypes. Which is why I mentioned that vacation photo.

So Cam celebrates first downs when he rushes for a first down and celebrates mostly when he runs one into the endzone for a score.  Why do few other quarterbacks do that?  Simple, they can't run for a first down or run for a touchdown  Seems to me that everyone who makes any kind of play particularly on defense showboats all the time.  Particularly after every tackle for a loss or sack.  I am old school and not big into the showboating myself, but I dont think what he does is worse than anyone else.  Maybe he does it more often because he makes more first downs and runs more in for scores so it seems to opposing fans to be more annoying.

I think people get confused when people talk about race in these type of things.

It isnt really about the individual making the comment, it is about the society in which these comments/stereotypes are allowed to exist and how that affects the black community in a macro level.

Most people are not cognizant of their racism, they themselves are really just victims are their own environment and society.  That is why they often get defensive about it, blame the people bringing it up, or try to find a similar situation with another white/black person and claim reverse racism or proof of the absence of racism.

That is also why it is important to listen when the black community when they are telling people how these things make them feel, and how these base level instincts leave them oppressed even as we feel we are more tolerant and progressive as a whole.

And while we are steroetyping, most people who see racism everywhere or complain about it are black.  Unless it is overtly stated, most of us see what we think we will see or what we expect to be there.   Cam has been polarizing much more than Russell Wilson, for example, so it isnt just a race issue or even mostly a race issue to me.

I didn't say I see racism everywhere. I said I see it when it comes to Cam Newton. You are crazy to think this isn't a race issue when these same critics which the majority of them are white, complain about Cam dancing and they don't say a word about white players dancing.

And I said you are looking for it and you found it. I am a old white guy and I love Cam and was advocating for him from the draft. Am I devoid of prejudice?  No and neither are you.  The funny thing to me is that most people are racist about some things with the latest being that all Muslims from Syria will end up being terrorists so we shouldnt let anyone in the country.  Is some of the hate about racism, sure but honestly mostly hardcore racists dont watch football because like basketball there are too many black people who play.  They prefer Nascar where mostly everyone is while. Steroetype?  Absolutely,

I would add...when Aaron Rodgers does it he gets a commercial but Cam....

 

....sums up what Olsen said about it yesterday. The whole thing is silly and yet disturbing. Add me to the white guy that roots for all the players on the team (until I find out they are pond scum in real life). I used to not care what they did off the field really...I just wanted some damn wins but seeing the wins coming in this year and, more importantly, HOW the teams acts and is comprised of amazing guys makes me that much happier. I feel that much prouder to give the organization my money and represent them out in the world by wearing their logo.

First of all Cam hasnt had the success that Rodgers has and doesnt appeal to the wider market like Rodgers.  And lets be real here, commercials are about selling products and not offending anyone and Cam is polarizing for whatever reason.
