bP's Breakdown of the Skins

I live in Northern VA and am very in tune with what is going on up here. I will touch on the key players at each position. But before I do- lemme just say that I don't care about a perfect season and going undefeated, but Please Lord don't let our first loss come against these guys. I will never hear the end of it for the rest of the season and possibly my life. Do not take these guys lightly- yeah they just played the worst defense known to man, but they aren't terrible. Their Offense is legit and if we don't play our best football- we leave the door open to go home with an L.
 

QB: Kirk Cousins
Cousins has been up and down all year and he just had an UP game last week. Probably the best game of his career against an all-time horrid defense. I don't see him coming close to putting up those type of numbers on us but that doesn't mean he can't put up some numbers on us. The best thing they have going for them right now is confidence (maybe misguided blind confidence) but confidence non the less- and they got it in SPADES. I think the idea that Cousins is a 'Bad QB' that had a good week here and there is silly- he is a legit starting QB that can make all the throws and is getting his weapons back.

RB: Alfred Morris, Matt Jones, Chris Thompson
This is an interesting group- both Morris and Jones are very similar RBs. Jones has a better burst and Alfred is more of a between the tackles guy. Thompson is the 3rd down back that can catch and get outside. I don't think their run game is really that much of a threat because they have been shut down by decent/good defenses all year. They started off hot for the 1st 2 weeks and then quickly fell off only to be heard from last week against the Aints. We have held tougher run games to minimal success in the past and down think this will be much different. BUT the key is to make sure they don't run- everything in their O is based on getting in manageable 2nd and 3rd downs. Stop them on 1st and make it tough all day.

WR: DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Jamison Crowder
Here is the main problem this week. Jackson taking a half a season off and he is fresh. Garcon is looking more and more like Anquan Boldin in my eyes- possession receiver that can makes a few moves as well. Crowder has been a bright spot all year- he has a wiggle to him that can bust open a 8-10 yard gain into a 30 yarder. We need to keep it all in front of us.
J-No24 vs DeSean will be a matchup to watch (best vs best). Garcon vs Peanut will be good too (vet vs vet). Crowder vs Bene will be KEY KEY KEY (young buck vs young buck)!!!

TE: Jordan Reed
Then there is a monster TE that can go get the ball. This is Cousin's security blanket. He was out earlier this year and Kirk struggled without him. Now that he is back- you see the confidence rising up in their O.

O-Line:
Not the best group, but they are healthy and getting the job done. I believe we can get pressure with our push up the middle. Rattling Kirk is good, but filling the holes to take make them 1 dimensional is key.

D-Line: Terrence 'Pot Roast' Knighton, Jason Hatcher, Ryan Kerrigan
Skins play a 3-4 but don't have great edge rushers like- say a Denver with Von Miller and Ware. Kerrigan is the lunch-pale, bring it every play kinda guy but ain't gonna explode like a prototypical 3-4 DE you think of. Pot Roast is a load but kinda just stands up and doesn't ever get any penetration. Hatcher has become their vocal leader on D and bring the veteran leadership but is long in the tooth and can get winded. We need to test the edges by running outside some because their D-line and LBs aren't like the Seahawks who run sideline to sideline. Their D-line poses only an average threat IMO. Let me just say this- if the Titans D-line was graded as a B+, the Redskin would be a C-.

LB: Perry Riley Jr., Keenan Robinson
First, Perry Riley had a good game this week- However, I think I heard a stat on the radio a week ago that said the Skins own the Top 2 worst starting LBs and starting Safteys in the league. If we can move the D-line and create holes for Stewart to run through, and he always has the potential to break a LB tackles for a big gain- I see this as the area we will attack like crazy with our run game.

CB: D.Hall, Breeland, Culliver
All week long, Skins fans we scared about Drew Brees and their passing attack. Their secondary should have been shredded by the Saints and they knew it- that's why they are riding so high right now. Breeland and Culliver were physical enough to break up some passes but I think that was them playing to their MAX and not their average overall play. They will probably try to take away Olsen all day (other teams have tried i guess) but we will need some guys to step up and exploit the weak secondary. Philly or Funchess having a breakout game would be sweet right about now.

S: Dashon Goldson, Trenton Robinson
Like I said earlier, the Top 2 worst starting LBs and starting Safteys in the league. Goldson's and Robinson's idea of the term COVERAGE is to hit you real hard after you catch it. That's how they play D. They aren't ball hawks at all. Goldson got a pick 6 last week on a tipped pass on an out route- first time the Redskins had an INT in forever.

In summary:
Cam should be able to find holes in their D for sure. To say it nicely- they are exploitable. Look for Stewart to have a big day possibly. 1 or 2 end around to Philly wouldn't hurt.

Our defense vs their Offense will be the test of the game, IMO. We can't let Kirk get into a rhythm. pressuring him will force him into mistakes, but playing honest defense is key. If we can get some pressure with our front 4 and fill the gaps in the run game with Luke and TD- it will make it a lot tougher on them.

Panthers 27 - Skins 17

No prediction from me. I have vowed not to do so this season (maybe not ever again while a season is actively occuring). That said, the Redskins, like every other game we will face the rest of this season, is the proverbial trap game. They are good enough to beat us if we we don't respect them and get lazy. However, we match up well against them and they will be out manned if Riverboat can keep the boys focused on being 1-0 this week.

Truthfully, I am most worried about the Dallas game. Not because of Rome or Hardy or primetime or even trap game. Very simply, our boys will have to go on the road after this weekend, and only have a 3-day turn around to prepare mentally and physically for Dallas. Granted, Dallas will also only have 3 days to prepare, but the lack of rest is what is most worrisome to me, especially now that we are getting healthy.

I live in Southern Va and basically there is a butt load of Skins fans and then Cowboys, Eagles, Steelers fans scattered around. If we lose Sunday I will have to live in my bunker for a month.

Even if the Skins pulled the upset they are still light years behind where we are as a team.  GO PANTHERS

Name a starter on Washington's team you'd replace one of our guys with.  WR is probably the only thing you can come up with and I'm not even sure I'd do that.  My prediction is that Carolina is the better team top to bottom and our guys just need to keep the right mentality and score enough buffer points to cover the refs.

If the key to the game is our defence vs Kirk Cousins then I'm feeling pretty confident.

Key for me: TD not getting a stat last Sunday. If there's a dude in the NFL you can say that can play well while being pissed off, it's TD. He definitely knows how to motivate himself. Should be fun.
