I keep hearing "you guys need that 1 loss"

This is one of the downfalls of living in another NFL teams city, everyone has their opinion of what this team "needs" without really knowing anything about the Panthers.

Let me tell you, the Panthers don't need to lose before the playoffs.  They are being galvanized by the "bend don't break" mentality.  Every player seems to be focused on one goal, win.  I love how this team finds different ways to win each and every week.  Whether it be total domination on both sides of the ball for 4 quarters, the Offense making the game winning score, the Defense sealing the deal with a turnover, or Special Teams making that one play, each week someone or some unit steps up and wins the game.

I credit two people.  Coach Ron for his unifying, "everyone is accountable", and Keep Pounding mentality. And I credit Dave Gettlemen for going out there, and not just finding more-than-capable bargain bin talent, or drafting studs, or getting vets on the team who know what winning is all about.

So do we need a loss to win a Super Bowl?  I say no.

Same people that say this told me to buy Pet.com stock in 2000 and then told me to start buying and flipping houses in early 2008.

If it was the year 1415, they'd be the ones telling you the Earth was flat. They don't really know anything .They're just parroting a catchphrase everyone says so they fit in with the crowd. If there were 10-12 teams that went undefeated up until the Super Bowl and lost, then there'd be some merit in needing to lose a game.

Very good.  I can stand with you on that.  Can you believe I said that?  Just kidding.  I agree with your assessment.

It would be different if our players weren't used to losing. A team like Green Bay needs 1 loss. The Patriots need 1 loss. We are familiar with the feeling.

We don't NEED a loss. I understand that it would be preferable to lose in the reg season over post season and that a loss could humble us. However, there is no proof losing games helps you win the Super Bowl. Also, with guys like TD, Keek, and Cam; I honestly believe we will stay focused and keep in mind we are a huge target now.

I was thinking about that, but the more I chewed that idea around, the more I realized that we don't need to lose.  I agree that we have lost so much already in the past few years.  This team is hungry.  They also realize the margin for error is incredibly  small.  We have almost lost a few games but were very fortunate that we made the play (Hey Josh Norman, Thomas Davis, Cam, Olsen, etc).  Well some will call it making plays, others will see it as lucky.

But we are playing really well, we are playing clutch football, finishing games with the play to win it.  I'm thrilled.  It's a train ride, but a fun one.  I hope it doesn't stop until we win a Super Bowl.  Wouldn't that be something: win the Super Bowl when everyone else thought we weren't even going to win 7 games.

Let's make that first loss next pre-season =)

I don't a let down for this team. They're hungry and coming from a losing season and a ton of disrespect. I see injuries playing a bigger role. If we get lucky and get all our key players back for the playoffs (with nobody essential going down), look out for the Panthers.
