So will 'Concussion' hit home given Luke's situation months ago?

When I first heard about the movie a few months ago in passing, I didn't pay much attention and just wrote it off as another NFL based cash grab.. Well after seeing the trailer I can say without a doubt I am pumped and aside from 'Creed' is now my most anticipated movie to see by far.

Early reviews from various sports journalists who are big time fans of the NFL said while they still love the game and will continue watching it and enjoying it, it definatley had such enough of an impact to initially make them take a step back and consider some things.

First thing I thought of when seeing the trailer was Luke and his recent concussion and just how we react in general when one of our own players gets a concussion.. I have a feeling a lot of us are going to feel like utter crap after we see that movie and think back to the Luke situation.

Nonetheless I am super pumped for this movie.

Yea Dan Morgan also, I wasnt really actively following this team when he was playing but i can imagine it would hit home with him also. Im fascinated by CTE and the effects of concussion on the brain. I know people on here like to bash Terry Bradshaw but its sad and I feel sorry for him because you can tell when watching him on Fox NFL Sunday that something is off and when news came out he had CTE it all made sense, im not saying that to be funny, im serious.. You can just tell there is something wrong with him

The NFL used to cover up concussions or concussion data back in the day. That's why guys brains turned to mush. That's why guys kill themselves because of CTE and depression. Chris Benoit from WWF (I'm 33 it will always be WWF to me, not WWE) killed his whole family. It was a dark time and a lot of people suffered from it. I also think a lot of people put themselves back in games because they were "warriors" and that's just how the game was played. Hell, I got a concussion in a high school game on special teams, went and threw up, and played the next defensive series.

But the NFL has gotten light years better IMO. Concussion protocol has made a huge difference. I think moving forward you will see far fewer players impacted later in life from brain trauma. Luke Kuechly as recently as 10-15 years ago would have been right back in there week 1, fuging his brain up badly. Even though it took a huge settlement and a lot of shady poo and tragedy to make it better, it has gotten better IMO.

I agree, it appears the NFL has done a lot to turn things around regarding player safety.  That said most player understand that there is always a risk of injury up to and including potential career ending/life changing injuries.  It will never be completely done away with and let's be honest do we really want to watch flag football?

Honestly.. Aslong as there was someway for the game to still require immense skill to play and still be fun to watch I wouldnt mind it. Call me "soft" or whatever but I dont care about big hits and what not, I love watching football moreso for the skill, the chess like mental aspect of the game, the strategy behind all the moving parts, the decision making under pressure and being clutch etc.. I actually think about it often how you can make football not as physically violent and yet still be watchable and enjoyable, i would be all for it..

It would also make the game more skill based and less flukey and not as luck dependeant because you would see less injuries

Football is a game of bravado and a warrior mentality. You need to protect players from themselves. I guarantee you Luke Kuechly was asking to go back in the game against Jacksonville. I'm not a neurologist but I've always said I don't think it's concussions that destroy players, it's multiple concussions in a short period. Keeping players off the field until they are truly ready to get back out there will be a huge difference maker in player health, and that's a great thing regardless of how it might mess up our fantasy football rosters.
