Miami Hurricanes Interested in Shula

I have been on and off the Shula bandwagon but I have to admit he has something good going on with Cam.

I think the biggest thing is he has let loose and allowed Cam to make decisions based on what he sees.  Many teams have tired to stop him but because he has a choice at the LOS it makes our offense very potent.

Props to Shula and growing with his offense.  That said, Is that style of offense going to be something you want in college football?  Most teams are pinball games with high scoring machines.   Shula has a very good thing going here that he has nurtured since Cam was a rookie.  IMO his style will fail in the NFL because he'll never have a defense like this one to help him.   Each possession is more critical in college because your good teams score at will and if you get behind it makes things difficult.

If I were Shula I would say Thanks but No Thanks.

I can imagine our OC position would be really attractive to FA coaches this offseason.  We have a franchise QB, solid O-line, probowl TE, horde of capable RBs and the return of Kelvin Benjamin would just leave you salivating.

Are you saying it would be a breeze to find a new offensive coach if Shula was to leave?

Are you saying that opposing teams just want Shula because we have good players and that Shula is the reason those players are so good?

Or are you saying that teams would like to disrupt our team chemistry by chopping the head off the snake (so to speak,) so that  the Panthers Might take a step back because they have to re-adjust to a new OC?

I said it before and I'll say it again. Cam has control of this offense, not Shula...and I'd even go so far as to saying our OL coach and Prohel are more important to our current success than is Shula.

Than Shula has done an AMAZING job getting Cam to this point that he can run the offense, and has also been amazing getting him prepared week in and week out to know what plays to run when.

I have mostly been supportive of Shula, but this paragraph of "Newton controlling the offense" has convinced me more than ever what a good job Shula has done.

It takes a heck of a coach to get a young QB to that point.  Wow.

I just hope when we eventually have a bad game you put criticism where it is due.  Cam Newton.  After all he is the OC now.

With success like this, coordinators are going to begin being looked at by other organizations. That's how it goes.

Shula has gotten a lot of anger directed at him on this board. Let me just be clear here, he definitely had things he needed to improve on, just like our offensive players, and our QB. The reason we are 8-0 is because both him, and our QB adequately addressed that in the offseason. Think back to our red zone percentage at one point, it was dreadful. Part of that to me was poor OL play, and general lack of execution, which we improved on there obviously, but the other part was not very good or opportunistic play calling. I have to give credit to Shula for realizing what needs to be corrected, and going ahead, and doing it. The result is, even without our #1 WR, we still have one of the better offenses in the league right now.

I do not think that Shula is as easily replaceable as some of his detractors talk about. But on the flip side, you don't want to get too far ahead of yourself either. I think going beyond being an OC, and just a general coach for players, he's done a good job with developing Newton, that was never really up for debate.

I know I am late to the party, but I would like to add something that has not be mentioned as of yet. The ability of this coaching staff to self evaluate and improve. We were barely average in the Red Zone last year. This year, we have improved the play calling and execution. I give Shula, Rivera, and Cam credit for that.

Sure there may be better OCs out there than Shula. But for what we want, Shula does a very good job. Cam is comfortable, and it is showing big time. Be careful what you wish for. Because, bringing in a new OC does not automatically mean we are going to set the world on fire. There is just as good of a chance it takes a while to acclimate to the new coach, and, Cam may never feel as comfortable with the new guy as he is with Shula. Although, there very well could be success with a new OC. But when we are doing so well, why rock the boat?

Ah hellz. Some folks are never going to be happy with Shula. No matter how well Cam is doing. To them, Shula will never get any credit for what Cam is becoming.
