Looks like you can squash this particular story though...

Shula not interested in Miami job

Reason: He doesn't want to be a college coach.  he wants to stay in the NFL.

Quote

### Former Alabama coach Mike Shula, who had support among some UM trustees, has conveyed to friends that he wants to remain in the NFL (he’s the Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator) and won’t pursue the UM job, an associate said last week.

I said he has improved but still makes really questionable calls.  You're in denial if you think otherwise.  It kills me how people want to completely forget about the terrible play calls Shula has made and continues to make. Not to mention his overly conservative play calls when we have a lead.  If you think this offense wouldn't run better with an OC like Hue Jackson, you're kidding yourself.  Shula is fortunate to have Cam, not the other way around.

We have a one of the best offenses in the league..you are in denial if you think the person who is in charge of COORDINATING THE OFFENSE isn't doing a great job.

Its ok man..you were wrong..it happens..   sometimes, you gotta give credit where credit is due.  Saying he has simply "improved" is not enough credit.

This reminds me of the fire RR posts before the Riverboat broke onto the scene.  Sometimes it just takes time.  Time to understand and adjust to your team, grow with them and learn the strengths and weaknesses.

I was not a fan of Shula until recently.  It seems he has figured out what makes this offense tick and is game planning accordingly.  It took Cam time to become the leader he is, it took time and experience for RR to become the best damn coach this team has ever had, and I believe the same is becoming true for Shula.

The problem with a lot of teams is that they do not have the patience to allow new coaches/new personnel to develop. They fire them too early and that is why those franchises are revolving doors and dumpster fires year after year after year.

Your Canes fan persona has nothing to worry about.

Shula doesn't want the job, or any college job.

There is the very real possibility we could lose both coordinators this offseason, and maybe some position coaches too.

That's a price of success.

I think we'd have to win a SB for something like that to happen.

Looking at the Bengals, Seahawks and Patriots, there might be better HC possibilities. I mean, McDermott and Shula are in pretty rarified air, having jobs as close to being HC as they could be.

the only way we could possibly lose either of those two is if a HC job offer comes their way...and I just don't see it happening for another couple of years.

much of our assistants success are due to having some of the best young talent in the league...Luke, TD, Star, KK and J-No on the defensive side. And Cam, Olsen, Kalil and a gelling O-line on the offensive side.

it seems to me that more defensive minded coaches are the first to get looks as far as HC jobs are concerned.

Is it weird I'm kind of concerned with breaking up the leadership of the team?  I mean, while everyone has been and will still debate the merit's of Shula's tenure, since we got hot, it's been pretty good to be a Panther fan.  Attrition is part of the NFL as your guys get scooped up.  I like what our offense is doing, aside from a few execution issues and a few play calls.  How spoiled are we this season?!

On the other side, I would HATE to lose McDermott!  They guys has just been a great DC for a long time with us, and I don't want to lose that.  He's been calling some great games this year, and our defense has been pretty dang good for several years.

Does it seem like either one has the make up to be a head coach though?  That's what I don't know right now.

Rob Chudzinski got a head caoching job without a Super Bowl.  Heck, a lot of guys do.  And Sean McDermott's already had interviews.

Truth be told, getting to the Super Bowl would actually make it less likely we'd lose these guys because teams tend to be impatient and don't like waiting around for guys to finish their jobs.

There are exceptions if a team really wants a guy (Dan Quinn, for example) but that's the usual pattern.
