What about Bene?

Bene has sucked this year, there's no way to sugarcoat it.  He's allowing a ridiculous completion percentage when targeted.  He definitely played much better as a rookie last year, but I don't know if it's due to him playing out of position or if opposing OCs, QBs and WRs just have more film on him now and they're exposing him.  Possibly a mixture of both.

I think it's mostly that he just needs to be on the outside because he doesn't have the lateral quickness to play in the slot. He broke out last year playing outside and I think that's where he is best suited.

No one wants to understand that. He's an outside corner, not a nickle. Stats showed that even last year he was far better on the outside as opposed to inside. I have no idea where the narrative that he's a better nickle corner even came from, but pundits and the fanbase would not stop harping on it all offseason.

It came from Gettleman and Ron who have said they think it's his best position and it's what they drafted him to play. We signed Peanut so we could move Bene back to the slot.

You could tell who they wanted to attack in the passing game.  They went after bene today.  Not giving up on him though..  After all,  Norman was on the bench in his second year

Norman was on the cusp of being cut a couple of years. I think that Bene has  talent, just still needs time to develop further. No one is even throwing in the vicinity of Norman, so, of course, Bene is getting "picked on".

Bene is asked to do several things. He blitz, he play nickel and sometimes outside. He has 9 pass defensed. He gave up 2 Td's all year long. To cobb and andre johnson who pushed off and had 1 pass interference. He's best to line up outside, but because Charles can absolutely not play nickel, Bene is playing there

This.  I don't know why some of our fans think it's a media narrative.  Obviously the Panthers organization is trying to force him into the nickel role, hence signing Peanut.

I'm not sure the signing of Peanut was to force Bene into Nickel, but to

1) provide competion, make Bene work for his starts

2) provide a leader & mentor among the CBs, and

3) to get the whole defense laser focused on going after the ball and forcing turnovers.

Nickel corner by all accounts is really, really hard to play in the current NFL.  Bene has not been that bad.  That route by Cobb and the throw by Rodgers was phenomenal.  The Andre Johnson TD was blatant offensive PI that wasn't called.

Bene has played the majority of snaps this year.  He has definitely not been bad like Antoine Cason was last year.  Bene probably wants to play outside, but the Panthers need him to cover the slot guys and he has done a good job overall.  Captain Munnerlyn gave up (and made) big plays too.  Having Bene out there allows the Panthers to shield Roman Harper from being the liability he was in coverage last year.
