Prevent Mode: Dear Ron Rivera...

So what you're saying is the Panthers were still TRYING to score with a 27-7 and 37-14 lead instead of just trying not to make a mistake? I don't care how much they passed, the mindset was just not to screw up, like it always is when they have any kind of a lead.

I didn't say anything about run versus pass. I'm talking 100% about mindset.

Are you actually saying that the Panthers were throwing the ball because they were trying not to screw up in stead of trying to score? Because that makes no sense.

When I say "Prevent Mode" I'm not talking about the defensive side of the ball. When your whole approach to offense changes from what's working just because you're ahead, you stop pounding.

Cam's interception was because of aggressive playcalling passing the ball there. The other drive (I think our only other drive in the 4th quarter) was when Cam was just short on the run. Not like we ran it up the middle 6 plays in the entire quarter. They were just able to control the time of possession towards the end there. We didn't change what was working, they just adjusted for it and made nice plays.

I don't think you even know what prevent is this is second week in a row someone has said we running prevent yet didnt till the last freaking play .

You have a limited definition of "prevent." I don't give a fug about the defense dropping back to keep everything in front of them. WHEN THE OFFENSE SWITCHES FROM ACTUALLY TRYING TO SCORE TOUCHDOWNS TO JUST TRYING NOT TO MESS UP JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE A LEAD, that is also, prevent, and shouldn't be called any less.

Yeah, outsiders who dont watch them think he is truly "Riverboat" Ron... I think the nickname is silly..

Two weeks in a row he's coached like he was up 45. He's done that for years. He's a pussy HC. Doesnt matter that its 8-0. He will tighten in the wrong spot and cost us.

Your GOAT can't make that throw at the end....

and fu*k you for calling RR a pussy.

Once again like last week

Prevent defense is NOT just quarter defense. You're thinking of quarter defense like on the last play of the game. Prevent defense is playing 5-10 yards off to prevent the deep pass or TD and you give up the underneath routes. A soft zone is a form of prevent defense which the Panthers did run once they went up 23-6 against the Colts

Now this game I honestly didn't pay attention to. My focus was lost from the refs

Throwing the freaking ball doesn't mean that you aren't just trying not to make a mistake! I've seen plenty of games where Cam throws the ball on 3rd & 2 late in the game and doesn't get it, and yes, they were actually playing more conservative overall.

What you're suggesting is Green Bay's defense got infinitely better in the 2nd half and held the Panthers to only 10 points, not that the Panthers also took their foot off the gas to try to limit their mistakes more. Keep believing that.

"Prevent Mode" like I said in the beginning does not mean I'm talking about "Prevent Defense." I'm talking about the Panthers persistent problem of easing up on offense with a lead.

We will have to agree to disagree.  I think it was pretty clear they were being aggressive, and trying to get first downs.  We came up a half yard short on a controversial ref call on one, threw an interception on the other.    That is lack of execution, not lack of aggressive playcalling.

    • Canales was brought in to fix Bryce. That was how he sold himself. He failed.  the panthers need a new qb, someone to coach him, and someone to build a defensive staff.  Canales has failed at developing a new qb. His big draft project XL is trending towards bust. His entire nfl resume before the panthers was one season as offensive coordinator on a stacked Bucs team, and being on the offensive staff when a 31 year old Geno smith finally put it all together. And he didn’t even pick his offensive coordinator. Assuming evero is gone, who’s he got in that phone to call? What low lvl porn addict evangelical from the bucs is ready to be Peter principled? There is nothing in his coaching history or his current performance that indicates he’s the person to move this team forward. Every other team knew this last cycle (panthers were only interview) and nothing has happened to change that perception   all people like you have is “well you can’t do it again it’s too soon but <random interval of time> will be different.  just pull off the bandage. There’s no reason to let this guy draft “his guy” except people wanting an excuse not to fire him after 2025.
    • Both Reich and Canales were saddled with trying to build and establish a viable scoring offense around Bryce Young. The best the offense looked this season and last season was with Andy Dalton who is also terrible but still better than Bryce Young. Which should be all anyone needs to know but still somehow there are weirdos here salivating over a ceiling of maybe on a really good day the 25th best QB in the league. We've already canned one entire staff over our first overall pick. You can fire everyone again to satisfy your need for vengeance and quickly come to the realization that your next hire will absolutely unequivocally be a downgrade yes man or you can blow up this QB room and then assess. If no progress next season then you can make changes and justifiably so.
    • Surprised this is the only post with this take.  This is like the Rhule kiss of death lol.
