So in the ongoing Greg Hardy discussion, there been some folks who have expressed the thought "I don't care what he did. I just want to win." Setting aside the obvious moral issues with an idea like that, there are loads of angles that this notion could be examined from. I'm going to leave out all but one.

Pragmatism.

Devoting a significant portion of your salary cap to and/or building part of your team around a guy who could go off at any minute and do something incredibly stupid is a major risk. If you question that, ask the Browns about Josh Gordon or the Jags about Justin Blackmon.

Panther GM Dave Gettleman expressed this same thought when he recently said "Building a roster is hard enough. Who needs a time bomb?" And this is especially true in the post-Ray Rice, hyper image conscious NFL under Roger Goodell.

So bottom line, some folks seem to think that not wanting head cases on the team somehow means that the team is not totally committed to winning.

The reality: It means the team is smarter than to put itself in the position of depending on someone who has shown themselves to be undependable.

Personally I would say that each case has to be judged individually.  But when it starts to become a regular problem, then cut those ties.

There was a Wake coach who use to call certain players knotheads.  After a few cases of knotheadedness, said play would be gone.  That is the way it should be with an NFL team.  If a player is constantly in trouble for doing minor but stupid things, or then graduates to more important problems, then he should be gone.  If he manages to turn himself around for some other team, then so be it.  But the team spends to much money (and more importantly to me, cap space) to risk on some guy who doesn't seem to or takes to long to learn from his mistakes.

Btw, I am only talking about off the field issues.  The discussion about Josh Norman is ludicrous.  To my knowledge, he has never had any off field issues.

The key to situations like this is whether someone learned from their mistakes or not.  As soon as his crappy little rap video came out featuring strippers, I knew he was a lost cause, and I'm sure our team saw it too.  Look I'm ALL about second chances, Vick deserved his second chance, but you have to have real remorse for the actions you had.  Even with the pictures, if he acknowledged it and try to become a better person, I think more people would be willing to forgive him, but he has none of that.  Whether or not he was guilty, why not go out and do anti-domestic violence promos instead of a dumbass rap video?  If you don't learn from your mistakes, you will suffer the consequences.  I'm becoming more convinced that Hardy won't be facing us on thanksgiving, something will be done and Greg Hardy has only himself to blame.

Judgment and discernment are important. You've gotta be able to tell the difference between guys that made dumb mistakes due to youth, bad influences etc from the ones that are genuine trouble.

And yeah, I've seen nothing to indicate Josh Norman is a problem child. Eccentric maybe, but not a troublemaker. His biggest vice is running his mouth on the field, and that's controllable.

Serious question (I only ask because I haven't been following the local Dallas coverage): has he been a distraction in the Cowboys' locker room or practice field? How has his work ethic been? I remember the dumb comments he made about Brady's wife, but has he done other things since the alleged assault to cause concern? He seems to be a complete azzhole to me, but if Jerry Jones likes him as a football player and likes his work ethic, then nothing has changed from last week to this week.

Guessing you missed this?

Hardy goes berserk on Cowboys sideline, gets physical with Special Teams coach

And to be quite honest, I wouldn't put too much faith in Jerry Jones' character assessment skills.

You mean other than going after the ST coach during a recent game, arguing with other players, etc?

Nothing has changed because Jerry Jones is a total piece of crap with zero ethics. As long as Hardy helps them win, Jerry will put up with anything until the league forces his hand.

Just had to say I express my regret 4 what happened in past and I'm Dedicated to being the best person & teammate that I can be

but mostly I am Grateful 4 the opportunity to play in NFL #GodBlesshookyStreet

I won't claim to know what "God bless Hooky Street" is supposed to mean, but I do know fake, generic "apologies" when I hear them.
