Whoooa,  slow your roll there a bit.  It's not like Shula is the new bully on the block (of which he has been around a few times,  seemingly since the Jurassic period).  We currently have the number 1 ranked rushing offense (largely based on Cam,  which is somewhat risky,  if not telling depending upon one's perspective ) and the number 29th ranked passing offense.  We are 18th overall. Moreover, it's not like we have really faced Murderer's Row of defenses.  And, lastly,  there is still a half o' season left. If you want to think Shula has had an epiphany based on this relatively small,  modest sample juxtaposed against his (sometimes perplexing) entire body of work,  then "crown" his ass!  Me?  I have to see way more.

What you and other critics fail to realize is that Shula is getting credit now because of our record but he has done a good job in the past for us.  This is the quarterback coach who took a quarterback who was supposed to take 2 years to be a starter and got him going day 1 at a high level without an off-season and a truncated preseason.  He is the one that took Cam and taught him how to read defenses.  He took Chud's playbook after we struggled in 2012 due to overusing the read option and simplified things and tailored them to Cam as Cam could handle more of the offense.  He has basically taken the worse offensive talent in the league by all accounts last year and an offensive line that was a joke and a banged up Cam and turned then into a decent offense through scheme not personnel.  Finally this year he has a decent offensive line (not great, talent wise) and a pretty average receiver group outside of Olsen and Ginn (at times) and turned them into a unit that can score on anyone and score at the end of the game.  This isnt a one year wonder, this is a culmination of years of work which is finally blossoming as Cam understands and has mastered this offense under Shula's tutelage.

The reason that people (not just SI) are giving him high praise is because he and his staff has taken below average talent at many positions besides QB and TE and turned them into a good unit.  When his star receiver went down he didnt panic he simply designed more complex running schemes knowing we would have to be more dependent on the run and that teams would load the box with 8 or 9 guys all day.  He has adapted and done the best he can with the crap he has been given for years.  Now that we are 7-0, people are recognizing it and critics like you are having to at least given him some credit.

As for the back and forth, I an going to say little else in this thread.  The results speak for themselves and everyone sees what they want to see.  If you and others want to stay in the dark and take potshots feel free.  I am glad we have him and that Rivera and Gettleman saw his potential and stuck with him.  For those who dont see it, that is one of a thousand reasons you are posting here with me on the message board instead of working in football for a living.

I am confused.  Do we like Sports Illustrated now?

Sports Illustrated simply reports and regurgitates what others are saying.  Look at folks like Greg Cosell for real information given he watches film and breaks it down very well.  SI is simply reading guys like Greg and repeating it. And guys like Greg love Shula BTW.

Fine. But let's get this straight. I take issue with your "potshots" remark. I call it as I see it. A potshot is a low blow, and I don't take potshots at coaches or players. As a fan---and I am comfortable and happy with being one---I have a right to set my own standards and form my own opinions. Unlike some, I don't have a short memory, and I base my opinion on an entire body of work. In regards to Shula's, you and I are just going to have to agree to disagree.
