Mike Shula is your Offensive Coordinator of the year according to S.I.

Some may disagree,  but where I would like to definitively see some progression with Shula is situational awareness---the ability to adapt. Quite frankly,  IMHO, things have been relatively easy this year thus far. The game plan that we have gone into games with is all that has been necessary.

But,  as I said,  Shula has improved.  He has made the most out of a less than optimal situation.  I didn't think he could do it,  but I am pleasantly surprised...and relieved.

I would be some of the disagree. He has done a great job of adapting and changing the gameplan as we go based on what the defense is doing versus what they thought they would do out of the gate. The fact that we often start slow and pick up speed in the second half is a direct result of changes at halftime. He and Cam talk on the sidelines and tweak the offense as they go. We have used the no huddle very well this year and that is Shula changing things up when Cam starts heating up or we like the defense they have on the field.

it is okay to say you were wrong about Shula across the board. You surely aren't alone. As I said, when we have the personnel to run his offense which includes a quarterback who can read defenses and master his offense we would do well. The biggest difference is that all the work he has put into Cam if finally paying off. It must be immensely satisfying to see all your work come to fruition and prove all the critics wrong. I know I enjoy all of you critics being forced to eat crow. And I am enjoying all of the qualifiers and reserved praise in a weak attempt to save face.

I've hated Shula still don't understand running on 3rd and 15 with the Colts on the Panthers hills. 3rd and 1 bombs. That end of round play they use every game.  So many games we get ahead and run three and out to run time off the clock.  Leaving the other team to come back and possibly win.  But 7-0 so I guess eventually it I have to stop hating and realize I'm wrong.  Everybody is saying he is great.  I've played and watched football since a kid but I couldn't construct an offence that's for sure. I'm just a fan that likes competition and entertainment.

The thing is that some of that is Cam, some is looking at the big picture, and some is also setting something up.  Cam has the ability to audible to one of several plays much of the time.  So, some of those plays you don't like are Cam's decision to go with that particular play (not always, but sometimes).  Others are simply because they are looking at the big picture and are willing to sacrifice one play or drive to better position themselves later.  And many times, teams call plays they really don't expect to work early in games because they are setting up something else later in the game.  And those end arounds' confuse the defense.  They don't know whose going to end up with the ball or where they are going with it.  We may run the same play in the same direction several times, only to completely switch things up at a key moment, catching the defense off guard.

Watching the Bengals offensive playbook seems really impressive of things we could add.... I just rarely see new plays or at least different players in there to mix it up.

You do know that we don't run a WCO and have a very different offensive philosophy? You don't add plays that don't fit you quarterback and offensive personnel.

I think if we had KB this year, along with Cam's growth, you would see a lot more varied looks.  And defenses would be forced to play us much differently.  It would open so many things for us.  If they tried to stack the box, KB would eat them alive on the outside, so they would have cheat towards him, which would open thing up for our running game.  We still wouldn't be dynamic, because that's not our style, but we would be extremely efficient at moving down the field.  I think teams would have a very difficult time keeping us from enforcing our will on them...no matter how good their defense is.  As it is, teams can limit us because we don't have a guy on the outside that forces teams to take an extra guy out of the box.

Oh man, Mike Shula reminds me Al Golden. The man has an outlier season and all the sudden he's legit. If anybody hires him as a head coach, they deserve to lose for half a century. Go ahead. Crown him as OC of the Year. This is a freaking blessing if people are stupid enough to believe it.

The only people, being stupid are those posters still refusing to acknowledge he is doing a great job given all the overwhelming evidence to prove it.  it really s funny.

if someone asked...I could make a strong argument why Tennessee should at least ponder Shula.

He's already proved a couple of times he sucks, people need to find what they are and do it. Hopefully he figured it out knows he's an OC, that got lucky with Cam. He needs to stay...wait, yeah.

Riiiiiiiight. Shula is the reason why our offense is dodging 5 sacks a game, delivering lasers inbetween defenders, picking up crucial first downs when our receivers fail to get separation, breaking multiple tackles, flipping over defensive linemen, etc. Yes, obviously, overwhelming evidence is overwhelming.

A good OC uses his talent to its best use and Shula understands that totally.  Shula has taught Cam literally everything he knows. I am sure he is very proud of his.protege and what they are doing together. Posters who try to separate the two have no clue  and totally don't understand what the job of an OC is.

Stop before you lose any credibility you thought you had.

Right...because we all know life is static and people don't improve and learn.  That's why all of our presidents are teenagers.

Whoooa,  slow your roll there a bit.  It's not like Shula is the new bully on the block (of which he has been around a few times,  seemingly since the Jurassic period).  We currently have the number 1 ranked rushing offense (largely based on Cam,  which is somewhat risky,  if not telling depending upon one's perspective ) and the number 29th ranked passing offense.  We are 18th overall. Moreover, it's not like we have really faced Murderer's Row of defenses.  And, lastly,  there is still a half o' season left. If you want to think Shula has had an epiphany based on this relatively small,  modest sample juxtaposed against his (sometimes perplexing) entire body of work,  then "crown" his ass!  Me?  I have to see way more.
