So does Tim Brady

And AJ Green

And Peyton Manning

And Adrian Peterson

Etc. Etc. Etc

Any OC needs talented players to be successful in the NFL

I agree that OCs need talent,  but we were arguably more talented the last three years than now.  That being said ,  this is the reason why Shula is getting props today...basically because it is perceived that he has made lemonade out of lemons.

Now, if you are suggesting to me that Shula is better than or in the vicinity of Bill Belichick, Hue Jackson,  Adam Gase (even though he has moved on) or Norv Turner,  I am going to laugh.

But,  at the end of the day,  I'll give him some props (albeit with a little skepticism).  I must see more.

I don't see the correlation.  Are you saying you have to either have "1st down: run ; 2nd down: run ; 3rd down: draw ; 4th down: punt" or "But to those of us who actually watch the games and see the screen passes to Bersin, the love affair with deep bombs on 3rd and 1, as well as other lower percentage pass plays on 3rd and short in the driving rain....."?  Because I promise you, there's a better way to OC than either of those tendencies.  Roughly 70% of what we've seen this year is an example of it.

Sorry. Laughing. Yeah, I should be serious like you. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

What I SAID was that being an OC has to be the 2nd worse job in the world. No fan is always happy with their OC no matter what is done. There will always be complaining. And we are fans, we are allowed to complain.

BUT WAIT! How do you know that "the screen passes to Bersin, the love affair with deep bombs on 3rd and 1, as well as other lower percentage pass plays on 3rd and short in the driving rain....." aren't a result of Cam making adjustments at the line based on what he sees?

I was legitimately confused, wasn't trying to be condescending or anything.  I just took a guess at what you meant.  And I don't disagree with your point, just the lead up to it (if I guessed what you meant correctly).  People were unhappy with Todd Haley in Pittsburgh for a while.  That's comical.  I'd take Todd Haley after a lobotomy over what we've had the past 3+ years.

I don't know anything.  But based on the evidence: 1) when we've gone no-huddle in the past with Cam calling the plays, we didn't see that garbage, and 2) if Cam is picking the plays 70% of the time this year as we've been led to believe, that would explain the drastic reduction in those ridiculous play calls.  This is the evidence I use to determine that the bad playcalls are probably Shula's.

When I saw this thread title I laughed out loud because I knew the reaction it would get.  I had just given Shula props in a thread earlier today and said I knew that would be unpopular.

Shula had designed an offense like no other team has and he has structured it around Cam's strengths. In the past few weeks I have been reading how complex our offensive scheme is and how hard it is for defenses to plan for.....because we can do so many things out of any formation.

Cam makes it work...yes, that is his job.  Shula's job is to put Cam and the rest of the offense in the best position for success. Glad he is getting some love.

This is great. I am glad to see that the experts are validating what I have been telling y'all for awhile. I took a ton of abuse for defending Shula and like usual when I have taken a counter viewpoint like Richardson gutting the team in 2010,  Cam as the best QB in the draft in 2011, Keuchly being the best defensive player in the draft in 2012 and so on, I have been correct over and over.

Am I tooting my own horn in one post?  A little. Seems forgiveable given the months of crap I took. So when I tell you that Funchess is going to be good in a year or two you might wonder what I know that you don't.....

I've hated Shula still don't understand running on 3rd and 15 with the Colts on the Panthers hills. 3rd and 1 bombs. That end of round play they use every game.  So many games we get ahead and run three and out to run time off the clock.  Leaving the other team to come back and possibly win.  But 7-0 so I guess eventually it I have to stop hating and realize I'm wrong.  Everybody is saying he is great.  I've played and watched football since a kid but I couldn't construct an offence that's for sure. I'm just a fan that likes competition and entertainment.

The thing is that Shula has never had all the pieces to run his offense.  This is probably the closest he's come, but we still are a #1 WR short.  People like to point to his time at TB to show how he has always sucked as an OC, but the truth is that he had a very one dimensional group of players to work with and strict directives from the HC on what he wanted out of his offense (Dungy has talked about this, confirming the point).  He was also a young, inexperienced coach who has since grown into the role.  I haven't always been a fan of his situational play calling, but since he's been OC here, he's always designed very good, complex game plans.
