Mike Shula is your Offensive Coordinator of the year according to S.I.

Some may disagree,  but where I would like to definitively see some progression with Shula is situational awareness---the ability to adapt. Quite frankly,  IMHO, things have been relatively easy this year thus far. The game plan that we have gone into games with is all that has been necessary.

But,  as I said,  Shula has improved.  He has made the most out of a less than optimal situation.  I didn't think he could do it,  but I am pleasantly surprised...and relieved.

Pretty much agree spot on.  There's no questioning his gameplanning has improved, as well as letting go of the reins on Cam and allowing him more freedom.  These "big picture" type skills are where he's improved.  Where his improvement has been less has been the bone headed situational calling and the occasional ludicrous playcalling.  If one were to just look at stats from afar and make judgements (as people like writers for SI and other media "opinions" do) then you would have to say Shula is in contention for OC of the year, etc etc etc.  But to those of us who actually watch the games and see the screen passes to Bersin, the love affair with deep bombs on 3rd and 1, as well as other lower percentage pass plays on 3rd and short in the driving rain.....these are things that have to go before I can call Shula an actual GOOD offensive coordinator.

Shula has improved, I must say, but I'm not going overboard.

Other than that, Cam covers a multitude of sins.

So does Tom Brady

And AJ Green

And Peyton Manning

And Adrian Peterson

Etc. Etc. Etc

Any OC needs talented players to be successful in the NFL

And Shula:

A) gives him the plays

B) designs the plays

C)  coaches Cam on keys to know what play to check to

This situation is why I think the offense has been better.  Previously we were seeing WAY more of those dumb plays at inopportune times, and now since Cam's calling more of the plays we're seeing less of that.  Kudos to Shula for loosening his grip and allowing the offense to improve as a result of it.

Sure.  If there is a bad game that had a bunch of poor offensive play decisions, we gotta put that on Cam (unless it is made known that Shula decided to get more involved that game for some reason).  If it's just a play here or there that fugs us, then that can still easily be attributed to Shula's 30%.

Looking at the majority of evidence (past success when we go to no-huddle, this year's improved playcalling, etc), Cam's influence on plays = better production and fewer dumb plays, Shula's influence = a dumb play per drive and more stalled drives as a result.

I have said it before and I still believe Cam's calls the plays 70 percent of the time, not what Shula wants but he (Cam) thinks will work.

Cam has a different look in the huddle and at the line of scrimmage. He seems more serious.

He has taken this team on his shoulders for sure.

I'm sorry. I can't stop laughing. Because I can remember oh, so long ago, when people were complaining about playcalling like this:

                  1st down: run ; 2nd down: run ; 3rd down: draw ; 4th down: punt

OC has to rank right up there with President as a job no one wants. Thanks, Obama!

I don't see the correlation.  Are you saying you have to either have "1st down: run ; 2nd down: run ; 3rd down: draw ; 4th down: punt" or "screen passes to Bersin, the love affair with deep bombs on 3rd and 1, as well as other lower percentage pass plays on 3rd and short in the driving rain....."?  Because I promise you, there's a better way to OC than either of those tendencies.  Roughly 70% of what we've seen this year is an example of it.
