Mike Shula is your Offensive Coordinator of the year according to S.I.

Offensive coordinator of the year

Mike Shula, Carolina: The Panthers don’t have the gaudy statistics of a New England, Arizona or Cincinnati. But they also don’t have a true No. 1 receiver either, and that hasn’t stopped Carolina from winning every game it has played. Shula has done a masterful job of creative play-calling and staying true to the offensive blueprint in Charlotte, which is built around Cam Newton’s dual-threat talents and a diverse, Jonathan Stewart-led running game. The Panthers know who they are on offense this season, and it’s working.

Norman, Rivera, and Short get kudos in the article as well.  But this one REALLY stuck out to me.

but huddle experts have been saying the opposite... at least until obvious punched them right in the face.  still, some may argue but goons are gonna goon.

i realized from the Deangelo TD run in SF back in 13 that Shula or the offense has come up with some ridiculously good runs.  it is just now where everything has come to fruition with elevated line play and Cam getting a hold of the QB position at a serious level

Just now, gofightwin said:

Didn't Rivera say today that Cam calls 70% of the plays now?

No. That is not at all what was said. On 70% of the plays Shula sends out a formation and a couple of different plays and lets Cam read the defense and decide which play will work best against what he sees. Also, it was Shula that designed that offense for him and we are on an 11 game winning streak while using it.

    • There was a point in the video that Morgan looks at Tepper as if he was seeking approval--but that could have been polite inclusion.  If I am Tepper I am sitting right in that seat doing the same thing--but I would be more vocal...When Morgan said, "I was hoping we would not get an offer we'd have to accept..." (paraphrasing)--that is his gut talking.  Listen to your gut--don't let circumstances prevent the gut from being heard.  Trust the gut.  Reason?  He knew the draft would play out if they got Tmac.  He knew they would get an edge in round 2.  After that, they could get a RB and S on day 3.
    • It can't be a Burns situation. Tmac is an unknown in the NFL. Burns had what, 4 years of NFL film at the time of the trade offer? Sure you can judge taking the trade or not with 20/20 hindsight. Which I'm sure you will if Tmac isn't all pro this year. I really doubt they turned down 3 first rounders based on the context of this video though. Feels like you are just priming yourself to poo on the team later in the year like you always do.
    • My rough place for Scourton (based on a compilation of several prospect rankings) was late first, so I did not research him much.  I nearly forgot about him.  His college production his final year was not elite--but that seems to be the system.  I noticed that (at Tex AM) he had outside contain a lot, and was not rushing the QB--that means the CBs were probably in man coverage.  So I think he could be good in this system.  Princely?  I had him going in the middle of the second round; he was my hope once we took TMac.  Most of the mocks I saw had him going in the 40-48 range.  When we traded up, I had forgotten about Scourton (or did not know that much about him) and I thought we would draft Princely.  I was actually a bit disappointed because I think Princely will be a very good Edge.  I would not be surprised to see both statistically challenge the first round Edge players.
