MMQB Article on why people should believe in Cam

Of course this fan base loves him, well except the trolls that lurk around here.

Those two 80 yd drives against Seattle in Seattle.  EPIC.

Cam is a great player and I actually feel the same way when I watch the Bulls and Michael Jordan.  He is gonna do something and we are going to win this game.  Those that remember Jordan's NBA career know what I am talking about.  It is a feeling that we are about to see something great.

Jordan failed sometimes but most of the time we saw something great and if you don't see the same thing in Cam.

YOU AIN'T PAYIN ATTENTION.

I believe down to the core of my soul.  Cam will win the Super Bowl for us.  Watch and see.

I posted a bunch of excerpts on the duplicate thread which I started which is now locked.  If anyone has a moral objection to cllicking on a link to MMQB, you can read quite a chunk of this feature here:

My favorite section I think is the very beginning of the article describing the time Cam spent with Philly at the end of the Colts game.  Cam making time to listen to and chat with his WRs after the game demonstrates his leadership in a really tangible way:

Quote

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Cam Newton had just played three hours and 50 minutes of football in a relentless rainstorm, but the hot shower could wait a few more minutes.

A few stalls over in the Panthers’ locker room, one of his receivers, Philly Brown, just wanted to keep talking to his quarterback. Specifically, about how on point all his passes were. There was that ‘6’ route in overtime, a dig, which Newton had placed high and inside, where only Brown could catch it. They gained 23 yards.

“That was a tight-ass spiral,” Brown called over. “An absolute dime!”

“You looked like me catching that ball,” Newton told Brown, who leaped out of his 5-foot-11 frame to make the play. Then Newton flashed a mega-watt grin, his way of saying this is the most fun he’s ever had playing in the NFL.

The Panthers’ 29-26 overtime win against the Colts on Monday night improved their record to 7-0, uncharted territory for this 20-year-old franchise and its 26-year-old quarterback. Five seasons after being taken with the first overall pick in the 2011 draft, Newton seems to have fulfilled his promise. He’s finally made the leap from having played just one season of major college football, winning a national championship at Auburn largely based upon his abundant physical gifts, to directing an NFL offense like a savvy veteran, calling the shots at the line of scrimmage in a flexible no-huddle system more than half the time.

“The evolution of our offense,” head coach Ron Rivera says, “has been as much the evolution of Cam.”

I've noticed something with Cam this year. When we have been put in situations where we need to move the ball or get points, Cam gets it done. It may not have been pretty, but he finds a way to get it done. In the past that wouldn't happen every time. Cam would sulk and hang his head down on his way to the sidelines. Now, even when he misses his target, he has that look of damn, we'll get it next time. That is maturation.

The man has matured before i very eyes and it's showing on the field. He has really become a leader and you can see the guys are behind him and believe in him. He has learned to take what the defense is giving him.

We have something special in Cam here and some of the media is finally waking up and realizing it. It's just a matter of time before the entire world realizes it, and the ones that don't or refuse to believe, well fug em.

Oh, look... the same ol' tropes that writers use to make themselves feel better about themselves because they were so fugging wrong from the start.

Wrong.  HATING losing is totally different from being a SORE loser.

No, Miss Vrentas, its people like YOU that have created the "lightning rod".

Why in the living hell should he have to apologize for believing in himself?

Sorry folks.  Yeah, there are some nice things said in this article.  But its still the same ol' "Cam Newton was everything we said he was from the start and look! He took our criticism to heart, he changed, and is now a great player!  Yay us!" article I've read time and again lately.  She sets up the same ol' tropes from the past, never once doubting that most of them weren't true.

I agree.  I'm not hyper-sensitive to everything the media says about us like some seem to be, so I don't really care about how so many writers want to stroke their own egos.  But this article hits all the same old beats and just rearranges them a bit.  The quote from the CBS guy was the typical "Cam is an average or worse passer but he can scramble!" nonsense.  That's how people should describe Russell Wilson.  Cam is different and it's easy to spot the people who have actually watched him and seen the growth of his passing ability, vs those who just see average passing stats, but more wins.

I fully believe in Cam and having him as our QB is truly a blessing.  That said though, he's got to cut back on the turnovers.  We're lucky that the 6 INT's and a fumble over the past 3 games haven't cost us, but that will come back to bite us.  Granted, I know that he's had some picks that were 100% the receivers fault, but he's also been a little more loose over the past few weeks, and having him dial that back would benefit us greatly.  Last thing we want to do is give Aaron Rodgers extra possessions.

I find interesting is year after year RGIII or Kapernick or Luck or Wilson is the greatest thing since sliced bread.  Now really the only QB that developed into a great QB is Dalton and they were talking he wasn't much until this year.

Most importantly, Cam does this week in and week out so it isn't a one time show.

We are truly blessed.

Man I cannot wait to watch Cam and this offense once KB is back and we add another serious weapon or two. It cannot be said enough that we are FOURTH!! in points per game this season...I think the system we run now is absolutely perfect for Cam...and once we start running it on all cylinders it's going to be a fuging wrap for the rest of the league...hell it already it and we're just getting started....bitches.

i was listening to coach mccarthy's conference call and some reporter from the NYT asked if he thought "cam had matured"

he paused and you could feel that he was thinking "wtf is this bitch talking about" then kind of stumbled and preceded to say i was with cam at the pro bowl and he "was a very, very respectful young man"

the lines get crossed when they talk about Cam's maturation as a professional athlete and his maturation as a person because he bought a stolen laptop when he was 18/19 years old and his sulking after losses. I remember watching those first interviews and thinking "THANK YOU GOD SOMEBODY ACTUALLY GIVES A fug IN THIS ORGANIZATION." Cam obviously had to mature with the way he acted as a professional in front of the media but man that was such a breathe of fresh air.

It really is amazingly exciting (and surprising) to see us 4th in points this season.  Huge props to Cam & our offense for getting it done.  It's seems to me that our offense is quite efficient and opportunistic this season.

But not only is our offense playing well, but our defense gets a lot of credit too for creating so many turnovers, and limiting damage following our own turnovers.  It's so awesome to see a team with both units playing in sync and contributing to great wins.

We continue to lead the league in Net Turnover points - a huge part of our high point total and our win total.

-“Even when the Colts kicked the [first] field goal in overtime, we felt good about where we were. I can’t really explain it,” veteran receiver Jerricho Cotchery says. “We believe in [Cam]. He has that belief in himself, and everyone on the team sees it—we play the same way that our quarterback plays.”

Just how comfortable is Newton in the no-huddle offense?

“We don’t even huddle in the walkthroughs,” Cotchery says with a laugh.

During one of his two fourth-quarter touchdown drives to beat Seattle in Week 6, there was some confusion between the sideline and the field as the Panthers were trying to get the right personnel group and formation sent in. Suddenly, Newton put his hand up, giving the coaches a stop sign—his way of saying, I got this. Rivera heard Shula over the coaches’ headset: What is he doing … OK, good … Is he gonna … Yep, he did. … OK, he got it! Newton got the players into the formation Shula wanted, picked the play Shula would have picked, and then threw for a first down.

Just fuging wow.

He's on some next level highly advanced QBing now. Anyone still asking why Newton is better than Kaepernick needs to read this article. Kap is one read and take off running. Cam is doing Peyton Manning type poo all game...and he's maybe the best running QB in league history.

This isn't  hyperbole. This is facts.
