Carolina Panthers Captain Thomas Davis Discusses Monday Night’s Victory Over Indianapolis

TD is on WFNZ every week on Tuesdays.  Bene too. (I think they're both on Tuesdays if I recall correctly).  I love that they make all the player audio segments available as a separate podcast.

Ron Rivera is usually on every week with Marty Hurney's Inside the Lines on ESPN730, (On Fridays) also available as a separate podcast.  Usually very good listening.  Marty comes up with some interesting questions or discussion topics.

Bullet point summary please

Here you go:

"Crazy night, but we did pull it off, and that's what matters"

Q.  Asked about 4th quarter - what happened?

"That;s who Luck is, he finds ways to get things going in the 2nd half and that's what he's done in his career.  We knew that, but it's one thing to talk about and another thing to execute.  But all in all we finished strong with Gano's huge kick 52 yard FG to seal victory."

Q.  Re: resiliency - what does that mean to you as a team

"We understand that good stuff happens and bad stuff happens in games, but the teams that bounce back from bad things - they're the ones that win."

Q.  "What changed in those last few possessions in the 4th Q?"

"Havent watched the film yet but they did a better job of executing.  We need to do a better job of finishing.,  We're gonna go back to the film and correct the mistakes"

Q.  "Did the defense take the foot of the gas too much?  Got a little tired?"

"Definitely.  When teams go hurry up, guys are gonna get tired when you compete at the level we compete at.  They were a desperate team.  We need to play through that."

Q.  What has made you so resilient as a team?

"We're battle tested.  It all started 4 years ago when we lost so many close games.  We've now learned how to win games, and we have guys that have been through a lot together."     Talks about the team coming together, allowing them to win close games.

Q.  How did Ron Rivera settle the team down after Ginn's dropped pass?

"Rivera is always a calm head on the field.  When we get into stressful situations, and look at him, he doesn't change.  He doesn't cuss us if things aren't going well, but he does a good job of patting us on the back when we're doing well."

Q.  Did you have trouble getting to sleep after the game?

"I went to sleep at 5:30 or 6... as a competitor you think about how you could have contributed more.  As a team captain, I felt like I could have found a way to do something more.  They game planned me last night... but it happens.,  Luke went out and had a tremendous game..."

Q.  Talk about some of the other guys.... Roman Harper - he's struggled some, but last night he had one of his best games.

"Harper:  "He gets it, he totally understands the game.  True professional""

Talks about needing to find "killer instinct" to put teams away.  We didn't do that last night.  We need to do better.

Q:  Talk about the crowd:

"Man this fanbase has been huge for us..., especially the primetime games.  They're there, they're loud.  We feed off their energy.  We want to compete hard and win games for them.,"

Q.  Did you watch the Denver - Green Bay game?  What did Denver do that was key?

"They played physical dominant defense.  best secondary in the league, and pass rushers make it tough for any QB.  To hold Aaron Rodgers to 77 yards, is unthinkable"

Q.  How about last night's conditions, how did that affect the game?

"Not the determining factor.  It came down to execution.  We did good in executing for 3 1/2 quarters."

Q. Challenge of working on a short week.

"RECOVERY.  Trying to get the body back in tune..."

Q. Have you talked to Smitty?

"Talked to him Sunday after the game.  He's a true competitor.,  Hate to see him go out like that.  Hopes he can make a decision he'll feel at peace about, but can't see him wanting to go out like that."

People need to remember this when they bitch about Rivera not showing any emotion on the sidelines...

Great listen.

I see it in the stars man:

Carolina Panthers win Super Bowl this year.

Resign Steve Smith.... Wash, rinse, repeat.

Smitty retires a Superbowl Champion.

Jesus comes back.

The world ends with Carolina Panthers being the last team to win Superbowl in the history of the world.

Rivera was showing plenty of emotion in last year's Packer game when Luke got wrongly ejected by the Back Judge. Deservedly so. NFL issued a statement the next morning saying Luke wouldn't be fined and the back judge handled the situation incorrectly.
