Newton: 54% Cmp, 7% drop

Ryan: 67% Cmp, 6.5% drop

Brady: 69% Cmp, 5.2% drop

Cam would barely be at 60% if Carolina had ZERO drops total. He's just not an accurate passer. And he throws the ball way too damn hard. One of his picks was of a pass Funchess tipped up and everyone was mad at Funchess. But it was Cam's fault. He was 7 Yd downfield standing wide open and Cam threw the damn ball as hard as he could. He has no touch on anything except his deep ball. The huddle makes fun of ESPN for making any excuse possible to defend Luck, but y'all do the exact same thing when it comes to Cam. He has flaws like any other QB.

Also worth pointing out that Brady has been hit with as many drops and only 1.8 less on a percentage basis. If 7.0% was well above the mean, this would be a story. But it's not. Also interesting that every team in the top 10 except for us, Rams, and Pats have a good to great WR corps. Drops are part of the game. Any impact we're feeling from that is on the margin. 7-0.

But Ron believes everything is just fine with our wide receivers. At least that's what he's saying pubicly, Whether he knows it or not, our receivers core really is one of the worst in the NFL, if not the worst. They are a huge hindrance to our offense.

What do you want him to do? Come out saying they all suck. That would be real good for team chemistry. He is using the media saying it to motivate those guys. Its working too.

Exactly.  Also, IIRC, Ron's comments about our WRs were in response to a question/comment about how the team had stuck with Philly Brown even after his horrendous drops in the pre-season, and how Philly hasn't had any drops in the regular season (or very very few, anyway...).  The questioner was asking if Ron and the team felt relieved that their confidence in him had paid off.

So, in that context, Ron couldn't very easily turn around and say they're all terrible...

I'm sure some of Ron's praise is coach speak and wanting to continue to motivate and encourage the WRs, but I'm pretty sure he believes most if not all of what he said.  He seems to be a real fatherly type who loves to see young guys improve, and so even if these guys aren't blazing on the stat sheets, just the fact of seeing them improve and make good on these opportunities seems to be something Ron gets excited about.  He seems to love his players for who they are, not just for the wins they can produce.

Everyone knows this is an extremely sore spot for me...  i just cannot understand at all, why we didnt do more to address WR before the season, knowing how bad it was.  I also thiught Funchess was the worst possible guy we could take where we took him...  In all honesty, i wouldn't have taken him at all, but he's ours so i hoped he would figure it out.

But anyway, by comparison, KB finished last season with a 6.9 drop rate, which IIRC, was worst in the league among qualified players.  So, Funchess and Ginn's drop rates are ASTRONOMICALLY BAD.

We are 7-0 so you cant complain about much, if anything, but our WR unit is so bad, i fear that it will eventually cost us a game and it has already cost Cam his MVP Award.  Pisses me off...  imagine his numbers if he had legitimate WRs.  I love Ginn, but he shouldn't ever be anything more than a #4 ans the incredible return specialist that he is.  Funchess is looking like a washout...  people are actually starting to prefer Bersin over Funchess lol.

Kelvin had the most drops, but nowhere near the worst % because of his very high number of targets.  There are receivers who had drop percentage of 10% or higher., e.g. someone like Cruz

Victor Cruz WR NYG 23 6 41 56.1%

14.6%

Smitty actually had a higher drop % than Kelvin last year

rec   drops   targets    rec%  drop %

  Kelvin Benjamin WR CAR 73 10 145 50.3% 6.9%

  Steve Smith Sr. WR BAL 79 10 134 59.0%

7.5%

Gary Barnidge, former Panthers tight end has 42 catches this season. WTF!

Entering 2015, no NFL tight end had caught more consecutive passes without a drop (32), according to Pro Football Focus.

He has more catches than Olsen (33) and more yards 602 vs 518.

Gary Barnidge would be our most productive offensive player not named Cam Newton.

They haven't actually voted for MVP yet have they?  At this point, the award is Brady's to lose, and that would be true even if we had the best receiving corps in the history of football.  In fact, the only reason Cam is even being mentioned in irt MVP is because our receiving corps is considered substandard, but we are still winning and putting points on the board.  Some say its all Cam, and while I do agree to an extent, I think significantly improved offensive line play and Jonathan Stewart/Tolbert are a big part of the mix as well. But I don't think an improved group of receivers would bolster cam's case for MVP.

One thing I noticed about Cam's numbers.  In most of the games this year, his completion percentage in the first qtr or first half of most games is not very good.  He tends to overthrow more in the early parts of the game.  According to the stats, his quarterback rating in the first qtr is 34 or so.  But as the game goes on, Cam's accuracy and overall play in the 4th qtr gets him a rating over a 100, and he is playing with the same group of receivers.  So one of three things is happening.  He gets better as the game goes along, the receivers get better as the game goes along, or some combination of the two.  While I would love to see him and them be great for the whole game, if they are going to pick a time in the game to be great, crunch time is when it should be.
