The evolution of PHILLY BROWN

Ginn dropped we get it but Cam threw to him for a clutch third down conversion on a slant. How many slants has he dropped. I think his biggest problem is over the shoulder passes. I used to play receiver and its not as easy as it seems. He needs to work on his stride and vision of the ball. Running full speed is hard each step you take your head bobbles just a little and your vision of the ball jumps around with it each step. He has to work on his stride and timing of the ball with his stride.

Ted Ginn is not a rookie or a project WR. He's a Veteran WR and this he needs more coaching crap needs to stop. His skill set is limited. I'm pretty sure we brought him back for stretching the field out which consist 100% on over the shoulder throws. If he can only catch slants then move him to the slot and grab someone who won't fail when their number is called.

It seems like he's incapable of catching with his hands. It's almost always a body catch.

I don't mind him holding a better WR's roster spot. I don't see him developing into a ST ace either.

I mean, he's a Panther though, so I'm pulling for him to prove me wrong.

Drops Leaders

http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/drops/2015/

Rank Player Pos Team Receptions Drops Targets Targets % Drop %
1 Julian Edelman WR NE 52 7 75 69.3% 9.3%
2 Leonard Hankerson WR ATL 22 7 39 56.4% 18.0%
3 Demaryius Thomas WR DEN 56 6 86 65.1% 7.0%
4 Amari Cooper WR OAK 38 5 59 64.4% 8.5%
5 Nate Washington WR HOU 26 5 50 52.0% 10.0%
6 Julio Jones WR ATL 70 5 102 68.6% 4.9%
7 Ted Ginn Jr. WR CAR 20 5 47 42.6% 10.6%
8 Devonta Freeman RB ATL 40 4 52 76.9% 7.7%
9 Rishard Matthews WR MIA 33 4 47 70.2% 8.5%
10 Brian Hartline WR CLE 16 4 35 45.7% 11.4%
11 Garrett Graham TE

Yeah, that list ranks by number of drops....and Ginn is top 3 now after the last game. Why don't they rank by drop percentage, seems way more relevant.

especially when the ball is wet as hell. what ive noticed on those slants you are mentioning is that the ball wasnt place far enough out in front of him, where the trailing defender is able to break it up or he has to try and slow down to catch it. i'm not even trying to make excuse for Ginn either, we know who he is and he is probably the best we have all around, be he requires almost a perfectly thrown ball where he doesnt have to slow down to catch it. it's unfortunate, but thats what we are working with this year, but man him and Philly sure can get open. they are both agile and elusive, slippery if you will and harder to cover but are not complete receivers although Philly could possibly develop to that.

well here is where Phroel can help him and dont even know if you can help it. Its something that you have to learn to do. With slants your head never has to turn, the ball comes in in front of your face not requiring turning of the neck  like a over shoulder pass would come. over shoulder requires turning your neck in stride hand placement and almost perfect hand eye coordination. I think if he corrects his range of motion in him running he can catch the ball. Its almost like his left leg is bigger than the other and there is a dip every time he runs that throws off the coordination enough to lose the ball.

Brown had been exchanging text messages with Steve Smith since meeting the receiver in June at Cam Newton’s charity kickball event. And before the final exhibition of a preseason that had seen Brown drop five passes, Smith had a few words for the second-year receiver.

“Just trust your hands,” Brown recalled Smith telling him. “You’ve got good hands. Just do what you’ve been doing.”

What has changed for Brown has been his willingness to attack the ball rather than letting it come into his chest, an issue that led to most of his five drops against the Dolphins and Patriots in the preseason.

“So much better,” Panthers coach Ron Rivera said of Brown’s ability to attack the ball. “The ball’s up and he’s going up trying to high-point it. He’s trying to position himself in between the ball and the defender.

Its pretty easy to see that Brown has improved.  If it continues, with his speed, he could turn into a pretty good target.
