We are letting teams hang around, we need to stop being so conservative

We're 7-0 this year, first time ever for this team (and there are a number of teams that have never, ever been 7-0). We've beaten every team sent out way, and last night we won a slugfest in a monsoon against a guy that will be one of the great QBs someday (just like ours will be). It was a gritty, ugly win that required every player on our roster to give their most.

And you guys want to change how the team is doing it??? What kind of geniuses are you? By all means, let's scrap this team and rebuild it like your Easy Setting Madden Team plays!!!! Give that man a clipboard and a WiiMote, he'll lead us to the promised land!

You're the same ones that when we do eventually lose a game, you'll be screaming and running for the coach's house with pitchforks and torches. Grow up.

Against the Jags, Texans, Saints and now Colts this coaching staff has let the opposing team hang around and it has to stop. This run, run, third a long Cam run or screen pass is killing us. We need to go for the jugular just like NE does.

I'd argue we actually weren't playing that conservative....especially offense in the 2nd half.   We were playing poorly though.  A lot of times we could of ran and passed and passed.

On D I think the DL injuries and lack of depth showed up.  In the 2nd half up big we were pressing WRs with no help and trying to bring heat.  DL was just spent.

Anyone who thought we played conservative last night or thought the coaches weren't doing a good job have an agenda and don't have a clue. Indy loaded the box often doubled up on Olsen, brought 5 or 6 guys and dared us to pass. We ran and passed as best we could. Obviously the wind and rain made it hard to pass so we ran a lot.  Not conservative so much as conditions dictated play calling a lot. Anyone with half a brain could see that.

Not surprised with the thread given the OP is a huge Shula and Rivera critic. Like usual he has no clue.

Are the patriots receivers really better than ours are? Honestly I think a lot of our struggles come down to offensive philosophy and not personnel.

Please stop comparing Cam to Brady you make us look like idiots to outside readers of the forum.

I could be a WR for Brady.i

The refs played a huge role in this game. I hate bringing up the refs as it is usually a major cop out, but that hold on Olsen was huge. We run most of the clock out except for that call. That "completed" pass on 4th down that was not overturned was another. I honestly am starting to believe that the refs are told to keep the games as close as they can. Defense was gassed in the 4th and OT and still won. The Colts had 2 penalties called against them for 15 yards, yeah that was well reffed.

I think some of  you guys are missing the point.

Here's whats ridiculous about it... The idea that our offense cannot drive the ball is false. Carolina was up 23-6. And everyone knew what was going to happen... run, run, pass. Indy was loading 8 in the box and we still ran it. We did this for 3 possessions in the 4th. Stalled drives because we took our foot off the gas. We paid a guy 100 million dollars and took the ball out of his hands in the fourth quarter.... and put it in the hands of a guy who is known for 4th quarter comebacks... against a gassed defense.

The rain stopped in the fourth quarter but the coaching did not adjust.

You have to know what this does to your offense and to your quarterbacks confidence... You're basically telling him, I dont trust you. But with the game on the line.... the pressure is all on the QB to now throw the ball all of a sudden... and he keeps delivering. This team does not have to have dramatic game winning drives... but 4th quarter coaching puts us in that position.

Franchise has pretty much been like this since it started.  I'm used to it, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating.  There are a number of reasons why coaches do this apparently I'm not smart enough to understand them.

I'm not smart enough either.

This strategy does seem to work well when we've dominated the time of possession, worn down the opponent's D, and JStew can pound out first down after first down on the ground. However, this was far from the case last night.

Knee jerk reaction.  We were aggressive the whole game and in some situations running the football is the right thing to do.  Ron went for 3 4th downs this game.  Came out passing after going up 17-6 and ended up extending the lead to 23.  But you know some people have to find something to complain about.

After he scored on that Philly TD the next two possession were run, run, run 3 and out, run run pass 3 and out. How is that not going conservative?

Because that's our offense!!!! We have won 11 regular season games in a row by following that exact same formula.  When Stew breaks a run and we goes for 20 + yards its not conservative.  When we run for 5+ a carry it's not conservative.  When they colts put 8/9 in the box most of times we threw like we were supposed to.  You are nitpicking, hindsight coaching.

Ron Rivera said, we are going to run when we want to, run when we have to, and run when the other team knows we are running. What do you think that means?  The Colts defense played inspired last night.  Yes the weather was bad, sloppy etc.. But we were missing probably best center in football and a run malling LG.  We still put up 20+ in a sloppy down pour.

Shula ball.... "Oh guys were ahead.  Our defense will keep us there.  Let's just run the ball three and out.  Take time off the clock".  I hate it.  We have been doing it every game since Shula's been here.  Bugs me to death.  But maybe it's not Shula calling those plays maybe it's Ron's call. I don't know

did you ACTUALLY watch the game....we DID NOT run the ball on three and outs in the 4th quarter.

You guys suck....we have the least informed fans on the internet hanging around this site lately.

This has been the Panthers for 10 years guys, get used to it.

In this game though, Shula DID have some weird calls, but I swear, the refs were the problem here.  They screwed us.  I can't even fairly judge this game because of that (minus Gano missing a PAT and Ginn's drop, etc).  That second half was a complete fail for the officials.
