Not one but two websites TODAY say we should trade for Calvin Johnson

Throwing away multiple high draft picks on an over paid (albeit talented) receiver in the twilight of his career?

No thanks, rather that Gettleman take his chances with what we have now.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Detroit let Johnson go next year as they'll be in rebuilding mode.

At that point Gettleman can sign Johnson to a reasonable one year deal to help the Panthers win their second SB championship.

No, you sellout everything for now, not the future. It's not like overpaying now will really hurt, we can always start over.

Seems like a major gamble to try and win it all now, and suffer cap hell later. I sometimes wonder if I'll ever see the Panthers win the SB in my lifetime. It's possible that no one on this site will ever see this franchise bring home the Lombardi. If Gettleman thought that Calvin might be the missing piece, and the deal was fair, then I think he'd make a move. That seems very unlikely, but stranger things have happened. The reality is that we're going to have to rely on Philly Brown and company to try and win it all. That's a hard pill to swallow, but anything can happen.

Not wanting Calvin Johnson on this team, right now, shows the absolute lack of football knowledge that truly exists in this place. Getting Megatron, on this team, right now, at whatever cost, just punches Carolinas ticket to the SuperBowl. Not wanting Megatron, is akin to not wanting a SuperBowl trophy. Sorry, im taking SuperBowl.

I think the stupid posts about not wanting him, are just guys ways of coping with the fact it wont happen. No football watching fan is dumb enough to not want him on their team.

I'm sure Detroit thought the same way when the gave him that crazy contract.

Would be incredible, but a couple of points...

For one, as much as Gettleman values size at the position, I just don't think WR is among his more valued positions...  Furthermore, I think he values draft picks almost more than anything else (except for guys he has a first round grade on during the draft lol).  So, I don't see it happening for those reasons.

As far as the writing for these blurbs, the whole "Johnson would be the piece to make them contenders in the NFC South" thing is obviously off.  As I've been yelling forever, what I do feel is that a guy like Megatron is the piece that would make us a favorite to win the Superbowl.  Whether we get him or a similar piece or not is inconsequential to our NFCS title aspirations...  We should win our division regardless.

But, again, a consistent, LEGITIMATE receiving threat would be the difference between us being a playoff team hoping to get hot and a playoff team expecting to win it all.

Those same websites also probably didnt predict that we would be 6-0 atop the NFC South, with no receivers either. So glad that our GM/ coaching staff doesnt pay any attention to these guys. It's like the best way to fail.

The sports media is really just the horoscopes/ gossip column.
