Not one but two websites TODAY say we should trade for Calvin Johnson

that was the 0.1%, the rest of the season he was out with Migraine/Hip issues

That was a big play.

Regardless, he's a different player from Johnson. There were locker room rumblings, and he dealt with injuries a lot.

As much as I would love to have a legit WR I don't know I'd want to trade picks right now.  DG has been doing a good job through the draft so losing a 2nd and 4th would suck.  Although some would say that if you're seriously in contention for a Super Bowl do what you can to win it.  Glad I'm not a GM.

5. Detroit trades wide receiver Calvin Johnson to the Panthers for a second-round pick, plus a fourth.

Detroit's season is already effectively over in terms of competing for a playoff spot, and it's time for a reboot, which means getting draft assets wherever it can. The Lions can get back an extra pick (or more), while the Panthers could land the stud wide receiver they need to compete for an NFC South title -- a move that would be wildly popular in the Carolinas.

If he was still the unquestioned best WR in the league then MAYBE I consider giving that up for him and paying him that salary.  The fact he is in rapid decline means theres no fuggin way I give up anything to take him on for what he makes.

Let's call it what it is, Calvin Johnson wants out of that dumpster fire in Detroit asap, and what better way to do it than start spreading rumors that he could be had in a trade.  Conspiracy theory, yes, but who could blame him?  They are going nowhere and even if they dump Caldwell to shake things up, he's still got Stafford as his QB.

Not sure about the "DG has been doing a good job through the draft" when it comes to WRs.

The only drafted WR on the active roster right now is Funchess. Bersin and Brown were undrafted FAs; Ginn and Cotchery signed thru the FA market and Norwood was a trade for a 7th round conditional.

OK, we are unbeaten, and have the lead in our division.

Let's throw draft picks to them for an old, very expensive WR.  We will need those cheap players next year and the 3 after that, as we are about to have to pay for some very good young talent on our squad.

i only wouldnt do it just because of his contract, but saying you wouldnt give him up for draft picks is stupid. a 2nd and 4th were used on Funchess and Williams this year, who have contributed zero to the team thus far. You wouldnt trade Funchess and Williams for arguably the best receiver of the last decade??
