Stephen A. Smith believes we should apologize to Steve Smith

I think the huddle collectively should stop paying any attention to what that asshat says.  Hes an attention whore trying to maintain relevancy so that he can keep receiving a pay check.

Not really. He gets paid like $6M/year by ESPN and they have no intention of dumping him. He is doing pretty damn well for himself.

media is so hypocritical...

89 punches dudes in the face, explodes on people on the sidelines, goes loco on the field over anything that provides the opportunity.  Media selectively refers to 89 and calls it the type fire you want.

I mean imagine if 89 pulled what Greg Hardy just did on the sideline.  Media would say...."well, Steve Smith gets it.  He is tired of the lack of everyone and he is gonna let everyone now.  Coaches?  Yes, you aren't too good either".

Steve Smith was NOT let go b/c we didn't think he could still play.  Period.  Since his departure we are 13-8-1.  Currently undefeated at 6-0.  I think we got it right.

  • Is one of just 12 players in league history to record 900 catches, 13,000 receiving yards and 70 receiving TDs
  • Entering 2015, his 915 receptions rank 18th in NFL history, while his 13,262 receiving yards stand 14th and his 73 receiving TDs are 33rd
  • Smith Sr.’s 17,672 career combined yards (13,262 rec., 387 rush, 1,652 PR and 2,371 KOR) rank 10th in NFL history and are the most among active players
  • One of two players (Tim Brown) in NFL history to record at least 900 receptions and score a receiving TD, rushing TD, PR-TD and KOR-TD
  • Smith Sr.’s 81 TDs (73 receiving, 2 rushing, 4 PR and 2 KOR) rank fifth among active players entering 2015
  • Enters 2015 with a reception in 122-consecutive games, the seventh-longest active streak among WRs
  • Smith Sr.’s 47-career 100-yard receiving games rank seventh in NFL history and are second (Andre Johnson, 51) among active players entering 2015
  • Owns eight-career 1,000-yard receiving seasons, tying Reggie Wayne for the most among active WRs
  • Is the Carolina Panthers’ all-time leader in receptions (836), receiving yards (12,197) and receiving TDs (67)
  • Smith Sr.’s 75 total TDs (67 receiving, 6 return, 2 rush) while with the Panthers are also a Carolina record
  • Led the NFL with career highs in receptions (103), receiving yards (1,563) and receiving TDs (12) in 2005
  • Recorded 4 receptions for 1 TD and 89 yards, becoming just the 16th player ever to gain 13,000 receiving yards, in the 34-27 victory at NO (11/24/14)
  • Posted 5 receptions for 110 yards and 1 TD (a 56-yarder) for a Ravens’ offense that gained 475 yards and racked up 6 TDs in the 48-17 victory at TB (10/12/14)...Smith became the fourth player in NFL history (James Lofton - 1991, Jerry Rice - 1998, Joey Galloway - 2007) with 3 TD catches of 50-plus yards in a season at age 35 or older
  • Smith Sr.’s 11 total playoff TDs (9 rec., 1 rush and 1 PR) are the most among active players

But feel free to keep taking shots at a man in print when you know you wouldn't dare in person.

can we trade for 2005 Steve Smith?

And how conveniently you forget to do the same match to figure out this same team was 7-8-1 without him.

See what I did there? Same logic, same math, different advocacy.

No, I don't think the guy should be beack here, but to quickly dismiss everything he did and what he's accomplished is just plain immature and childish.

If smitty was a good guy and a team player like, say, Thomas Davis, he'd still be here.  He will never get it, though, and that's why it's poetic justice that he's in the cellar of the league to end his career.  He's a loser.

Yes we should apologize to him.  From what I read, his release was handled very unprofessionally.  All that had to be done was to call him up before the rumors came up, tell him honestly that the franchise had decided to move on, that he has been a great player, and he will likely do well wherever he ends up up and we will hate to see him on the other side. Had we done so, there wouldn't be the bad blood that exist.

No we should not trade for him.

if Baltimore didn't have the worst record in the AFC and the Panthers weren't nearly as successful as they have been thus far in the season, no doubt Smith would still be taking shots at Carolina. There's only one thing Steve Smith ever really cared about in the NFL and that is Steve Smith. He is an immensely talented player but he was a shitty teammate.

Apologize for giving him an opportunity to be a star in the NFL or for paying him millions of dollars over the years?

I have nothing against Smitty, but we don't owe him anything just like he doesn't owe us anything.

Aside for all that Smitty has said he would immediately retire if traded, so there's no point to this discussion.

there was absolutely nothing in my post dismissing what he did in his career here. The time came for him to leave....and it is working out fine for us.  Easily can argue it has worked out better for us than 89 at this point.  Carolina will relevant both years has 89 has been gone....

Ya know, I think we all wanted to keep 89 and wanted to see him retire here. That would have been nice. But we made the playoffs without him. He's talked a lot of trash about Carolina since he was let go. This isn't a movie man. This isn't a fairy tale. We proved that we can win without him. This is Cam's offense now.

We're 6-0

Steve who?
