I've told people to not be surprised when we Josh Norman isn't a Panther next year....

Before you hate ejaculate all over your keyboard that isn't what I want, but Gettleman has never given any indication he will pay top dollar at the CB position 

A lot depends on what Josh is willing to sacrifice to stay here. No doubt in my mind a team will throw record setting money at him if he hits the open market.

CJ will be gone and we hopefully pay Norman that money.  I don't care if Gettleman hasn't paid for a CB before, he's only been a GM for 3 years.   When someone that is a shutdown corner, maybe the best right now ,falls into your lap, you keep him.   Norman and Tillman's play, like the d-line the previous years, are keeping this defense top notch.

Alexander I would hope stays with a cheap contract, he needs to prove himself still.   Harper can be replaced but I bet he sticks around.  Tillman has been good for us, if he stays healthy I bet he comes back next year and won't break the bank.  

I think we're in pretty good shape.  I still wouldn't mind a reliable #2 WR to be signed, even with KB coming back but that shouldn't break the bank.

Sadly, I cannot get this thought out of my mind when it comes to thinking about paying the big bucks. 

Granted, Hardy had a ton of off the field baggage but he is a top flight DE (Hog Mollie) and was one of the positions DG loves.  Yet he let him walk.   I think the 2014 tag was to fill a void for till this season where he could address it.

IMO there should be no question but I don't make those decision.  Norman is showing he is not only a good CB but a great one.  He has finally grasped the role and now he is paying huge dividends for us.  The hope is that DG makes the difference between a good DB and a SHUTDOWN CORNER.

A SHUTDOWN CORNER makes this defense very strong.

I hope we sign him long term.

Tecnically Hardy is a blue goose, not a hog mollie.

I have no doubt G-money would have found a way to give Hardy a big contract if he'd been able to keep his poo together off the field. If not, why waste a franchise tag on him? When we tagged him, no one knew Frank was going to get suspended another 10 games.

hardy was a personal move, not a financial move. If the owner doesnt want a woman beater on his team then the GM's hands are pretty tied

While the outcome was to cut ties with Hardy may have been personal we tagged Hardy for one year prior to all his difficulties. 

The decision to keep him will always be up to debate,  Was it done to develop Alexander or time to find someone new, give Hardy a chance to really show he was worthy of a big contract.    That will never really be known, we got screwed out of 13 or 14 million dollars and got one freaking game out of him.

I hope we do all we can to keep Norman.   I hope he gets it done so we don't have to tag him but if not tag him and give Gettleman another year to figure it out.

I think Norman getting tagged makes the most sense if they can't agree on a contract in the offseason. I'd prefer signing Josh for the long term but if not, I just don't see us NOT tagging him. Plus DG has shown he's willing to use the tag so there's that too.
