Could Colts history be repeating itself?

In fairness Manning was old and it was known he only had a few years left. If it went down the way it did and Manning was 27, no way would they have let him go.

Maybe if they could get some Herschel Walker/RG3 haul like three firsts three seconds and three thirds the *maybe* they even consider it.

But let's be honest, has Luck shown anything to warrant a team to offer that at this point, especially knowing the contract he's gonna need very shortly?

Not in my opinion.

Valid question.

A few years ago, nobody would have thought so.

I don't see them getting rid of Luck. But in the near future, teams will eventually start letting QBs walk before they break the bank for them unless they are the world beaters that can make lackluster surrounding talent better and/or carry an offense.

The days of a team cap strapping themselves for a mediocre QB that happens to win a Super Bowl will be over soon. The Seahawks hard balled Wilson a little more than I expected and I think it was a result of Flacco and Kaep getting big deals and not playing up to them.

1.  ZERO chance they get rid of Luck.  No GM wants to be known as the guy who traded away Luck, only to see him live up to his hype. If he were 32 or so?  Maybe.  At 26?  Hell no.

2.  They won't get a high draft pick.  They'll win the AFC South because it's the worst division in football.  They'll be picking in the 20s, further screwing their needed rebuild.

While I'm pondering, lemme throw out a related question.

General consensus (me included) is that Luck stays and gets new leadership. I acknowledge the possibility of his departure but don't consider it likely.

What about Grigson and Pagano, though?

If this year continues as it has been, does anybody see either of them surviving?

If so, which one? And why?

(you can say both if you want, but that's extremely unlikely at this juncture)

A big part of the Polian split from Irsay was Jim being so adamant about Luck when BP wanted RGIII.  That in combination to Chris not being ready or deserving of handed a GM position.

Things got heated for very different reasons so history is not repeating itself, just a lot of parallels.  Irsay's drunk as$'s last bit of respect lies in selecting Luck and he's not giving up on the only valuable asset he has.

Interesting story.

How different football history would have been if Polian got his way.
