Itsa bullshit rule. NFL needs to quit tinkering and changing the rules every offseason. Nobody  even know the rules anymore. Not fans, not players, not coaches,  not commentators, not media, hell the refs barely know the rules.

I agree with the Peanut preseason play comparison.    NFL says if you are competing for the ball as you go down....whatever occurs will be the result b/c they don't view the contact to the ground being a catch yet

Correct. Contact to the ground caused by a defender does not end a catch. Contact to the ground caused by a defender only ends the play if the offensive player is deemed a runner. The receiver must maintain possession until the play is called dead by the officials if he has failed to declare himself a runner.

To be a declared a runner a receiver must avoid a defender or break free from their initial contact. Then touching any body part to the ground other than the hands/wrists and feet would end the play.

Ginn never became a runner, so contact to the ground does not end the play. Maintaining control of the ball until the play is whistled dead would end the play.

Im not even sure what down by contact is anymore. Hell they dont throw the flag for a guy hitting Cam after the whistle blows yet some how Ginn levitated above the ground and the defender as well to strip him before he touched down. Or do you have to contact the whole ground with your body and how defenders can just hold you up while stripping you for a INT.

I understood you must catch the ball and control it, establish yourself as a runner and its a complete pass in those types of cases..Ginn did all of that and was legally down which then the ball came out..there was no fumble either as the play was dead then..

They just be making up sh*t to explain their wrong calls..

I think this would be a lot more of an issue if we'd lost. But really, I'm glad we won. It's still a confusing dilemma. 

 

If you read the rules, I interpret them that the moment he hits the ground, he's down by contact. No where in that whole event did I see him juggle or not have clear possession of the ball. The cameras caught that too. If they didn't have a good angle on it then well, that's not really our fault. It seems like they're trying to just cover their own ass. But whatever.

This really is a semantics issue... is it a fumble or INT. Does it really matter?

I would love to see a receiver refuse to give the official the ball until the official acknowledges that the catch is good, he is down and the play cannot be reviewed.

looked like Ginn had control to me, all the way to the ground. Then both his ass cheeks hit the grass meaning he's down by contact. That's when the ball gets ripped out. pretty obvious to me that's a catch and the runner was down by contact prior to the ball coming loose
