Who was better.. Kuechly or Beason in his prime and pre injury?

I'm reading that Beason was "overrated" and "came close to being a top 5 MLB."

Patrick Willis was the only MLB considered Beason's superior before Beason's injury, and that was largely because of Willis's prototype size. He was athletic, great in coverage, great tackler, and made big plays for us.

People have short memories or just do not know what they are taking about. If Beason doesn't pop an achilles, he would still be building a HOF resume.

We have been blessed with exceptional MLB's. It is unfortunate that two of them (Morgan and Beason) had injuries derail their careers.

Coming from a fan since 2003:

Luke Kuechly is far and away the best linebacker we've ever had. Full stop. Coming from a team with a ridiculously good history of linebackers, that's saying something. We've never had someone that smart, fast, good in coverage and that can rush the passer.

Now, that's not to say our other linebackers were bad. Far from it. In his prime (2008-10) Jon Beason was the best 4-3 linebacker in the league. Beason was very, very good, but never really dominant up until his injury in 2011, and he was always in the shadow of Patrick Willis. He also only played two full seasons at middle linebacker - 2008 and 2009. 2008 and 2010 were split between inside and outside linebacker because of injuries. When he's been healthy in New York, he has been a good linebacker. I still root for the guy, he really deserves better than all the injuries he got.

It would also be remiss not to mention Dan Morgan. He is probably the closest Luke in pure talent - he was a hard-hitter (a bit too hard), and was good in coverage and pass rush. Problem was, his injury issues are like Beason's, but throughout his whole career. Great player, just injured half the games.

So, in terms of talent:
Luke > Morgan > Beason

In terms of leadership/consistency:
Luke > Beason > Morgan

Overall:
Luke > Beason > Morgan

Kuechly... and it is not even close.

Keek is the best LB we have ever had, and possibly could become the best in the modern era if he remains healthy and has a long career.

Beason was good when he was here with Fox, but since going to NYG he is rather mediocre.

I would say Thomas Davis playing in the middle is even better than Beason. I think that Klein is better than Beason TBO.

Someone needs to destroy your keyboard...

So much fail going on...

Not just MLBs, all LBs. Our combined LBs could well be better than almost any other team. Morgan, Beason, Kuechly, Davis, Witherspoon, Lathon, Greene, Fields, Anderson, and the list goes on.

the dropoff in talent between beason and willis was huge. Beason was never on hall of fame level, ever. He was good but be realistic.

They were in two vastly different schemes, though. 3-4 and 4-3 are very different. Both were the best linebackers in their respective groups.
