Eagles game plan: Hit Newton repeatedly

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

His game plan is going to backfire big time. There is nothing that gets Cam more excited about playing than feeling the hits especially if he's running. You can see it happen before your very eyes lol. And with him healthier this year & our o-line playing better, I swear he looks for it. The only QB I ever saw get really rattled by hits was Jeff George & Cam Newton is no Jeff George.

Cox had better not anger Mr. Kalil, Mr. Norwell & Mr. Turner either. It'll just cause the center of our line to focus better & then he's really screwed.

fletcher cox is a really good dude. every single team in the NFL wants to "hit, hit hit, hit him" blah blah blah repeatedly.

I think ya'll are making this too big of a deal. and every team takes intimidation shots. TD probably being one of the biggest on our team. And we all know what kind of man we have on this team with TD.

This is a non story and i doubt coach rivera even mentions it to the team.

Oh, I'd definitely mention it to the team, and I'd put the nastiest spin possible on it.

Cam is the ultimate competitor. The last thing you want to do is piss him off. He will have the crowd amped up, he will be trolling like ever with his celebrations, he will lower the boom on multiple Eagles, and will shred that defense with his arm. You ain't playing a hobbled Cam this year.

I can see reading it that way, but in my opinion I don't necessarily think he's worried about whether the hits are legal or not.

Now he might not come right out and say they plan to cheap shot him, but "wink wink nod nod".

I agree with you on all of this. Newton needs to be even more aware than usual against this dirty team we don't need cam to get injured

I don't see it as specifying read option plays only, guys

I could see that used as an excuse, though.

well, the read option does give you a legal window to tee off on a QB.  I mean, you can simply play the QB each time and hit him.  Gives up the RB run for who knows what....but there is a window that he has to establish himself back as a passer.

every NFL team wants to tee off on a QB.  Can't really go overboard b/c you put your team too at risk.  But I mean, he said what Thomas Davis and company think as well.

Pay close attention to this part...

What you'll want to note here is that Cox is not talking about when Newton runs the ball.  He's talking about plays where Newton hands it off.

Basically, he's saying they plan to take cheap shots.

15 free yards on every play? Maybe an ejection after the tenth incident? I`ll take that.
