Eagles game plan: Hit Newton repeatedly

Mr. Scot

Very interesting...

Good luck with that strategy...because...well...Andrew Norwell... Yeah, I wouldn't want to make him mad.  I'm pretty sure cheap shooting Cam is going to make him angry.../shudder

I wonder who would wilt first?  Cam or Sam?

If I'm telling Newton and the O-Line about it, that's exactly how I frame it.

Of course, but you don't seriously think that their game plan is to get a 15 yard penalty every time we run the ball and announce that to the media, right?

Chip's Eagles have no history of being a dirty team and Chip is not stupid and doesn't want his glass QB to be subjected to revenge hits that would knock him out for this season. They have a two thirds of a season left ahead of them. Risking that for a non-division game would be incredibly short sighted.

Cox is not a dirty player either. He's one of the best young interior defensive lineman in the NFL. He's actually got a pretty great story about how he's playing for his brother who died this year that aired Sunday on ESPN. It's 5 minutes and worth the watch.

If he thinks our line is like the Giants he is in for a rude awakening and a long day of chasing Stewart and cam. Our center and guard combo are probably top tier in the nfc if not league wide. This game could get out of hand early with multiple turn overs from our defense.

I think most teams and players will take any advantage they can, including ones that are a little outside the rules.

Blatant hits to draw flags? Maybe a few (the kind they call "remember me" shots). More likely a few more that are 'questionable'.

And yes, teams will often take a penalty for the sake of intimidation. The idea being that one 15 yard penalty now is worth it if the memory stays in his head the rest of the game.

Effective strategy? Debatable, but it's practiced all across the league. And you don't have to be a dirty player to do it.

How much of it happens depends a lot on how the refs call the game.

Getting after the QB is EVERY team's gameplan.  Not really that shocking.  But focusing so much on Cam, as that quote suggests, ignores the rest of our backfield.  Think Stew has a 110+ day??

If their gameplan is to play the QB exclusively on every read option play as this quote suggests then Stew could absolutely have a huge day.

fletcher cox is a really good dude. every single team in the NFL wants to "hit, hit hit, hit him" blah blah blah repeatedly.

I think ya'll are making this too big of a deal. and every team takes intimidation shots. TD probably being one of the biggest on our team. And we all know what kind of man we have on this team with TD.

This is a non story and i doubt coach rivera even mentions it to the team.
