Gil Brandt has lost his damn mind

Winner and Shula have never been associated in the same sentence. This is the man who nearly killed The Alabama program after all. Bwhahaha, if anything, Cam has made Shula a winner (despite winning a Super Bowl with Bucs).

Laugh all you want but since Shula has come here he has done a good job.  What he is did a decade ago is irrelevant and as fair as pointing out what Cam did when he bought a stolen computer in college to point out whether he can be trusted with the team and the offense.  What Cam did in college off the field and what Shula did as a head coach in college have little to do with who they are now or what they are doing for the Panthers in the NFL.

But it is stupid comments like you made which continue to devalue him on the huddle.

For the people who want to get rid of Shula..

Do you want a new OC that will bring a new system?  Even if we find someone with the same offensive philosophy, there will be a lot of differences.  OC's are hired because of the success they've had running their own system.  They arent going to abandon what they know.  Is the benefit of a new OC worth the growing pains we will have to endure?  Ron has basically said that Cam continues to get a better understanding of our offense.  You want to make him start over now?

Do you expect a different coordinator to produce a top ranked offense with our current roster?  If not, that should indicate that you need to manage your expectations.  Its not just about numbers..Cam is learning how to manage the game.  He needs to know this before he can worry about putting up huge numbers.  I think once your quarterback knows how to manage the game, surrounding him with elite talent is whats gonna take you to the elite level.

I've said this before..Cam gets all the excuses but Shula doesn't get any.

Yeah, who the hell wants to run the style of offense that has won 3 consecutive NFC Championships and 1 Super Bowl?

LT Michael Oher

WR1 Ted Ginn

WR2 Philly Brown

You're right.  We could find any old OC laying around and still average 27 ppg with that incredible talent.

The people who want to pile on Shula will never change their minds.  They are convinced we have all world talent on the offensive side of the ball that isn't being utilized properly.

It's kind of funny to me because I was pretty indifferent when it came to Shula until I started seeing all the people piling on.

Bill Polian has said pretty much the same thing raving about the job Shula has done both this year and last. That's one hall of fame GM and honestly Brandt should be in there as well give what he has accomplished build the Cowboys back in there dynasty days. I give them more credibility than anyone posting here.

You must've forgotten that I post here. I'll forgive you the mistake. I actually created the college football playoff system...back when you were in college.

Some of you Shula detractors are out of your goddarn mind.

Besides the year we had our worse offensive line in a long time (and still made the playoffs!), we're what, 17-4 since Shula started?

He's cobbling together a top 10 offense so far with a WR starting combo of Ginn and Brown.  Do you think those two even sniff the rotation in Cincinnati?  Green Bay?  New England?  Indianapolis?  Denver?

Thank you Coach Shula for not running a Michael Vick offense and instead developing Cam as a pocket passer, which will extend his prime years in the league by at least a couple of seasons.

And thank G-man for not going for the flashy skill position players and instead building up a monster in the trenches (with more work to be done on the O-line!).

I find myself defending Shula because of that as well.  If people were to say:

Based on the increase in cover 3 type defenses in the league I think Shula isn't using enough intermediate crossing (rub plays) as some of the more successful offense of the league run.  Good point.

I think we have more success in counter type runs and I think we Shula should utilize them more.  Another good point.

I think Shula should use Stew more in the passing game.  Or at least incorporate CAP who may be a better receiver.  Excellent observations.

No one has been able to cover Ginn on a shallow drag all year.  I think Shula should do that more. Yes, I agree.

etcc. etc.

That would be a good discussion.  But do you hear that?? NOOOOOOOOOO.  All you hear is.  I can't believe ran a PA bootleg on 3rd and 1 even though the other team had 9 people in the box.  OMG Shula sucks!!!

Oh my god he was wide open and Cam overthrew him, but why were we even throwing the ball!!!! OMG Shula is horrible.

We are scoring with no #1 WR.  ..Shula sucks!!!

We have no consistency in the run game even though we are the most run heavy team in the NFL and have the worst run blocking tackles in the NFL.... Shula sucks!!!!

We are 6th in the league in scoring.... um..errr Shula sucks because we aren't a top 5 offense!

We at game 6 are already 2nd in the most wins ever or a 3 year period in team history and have won back to back division titles. ....um um... well Shula sucked at Alabama and Tampa a decade ago!!!!

You would think at least shut up at least.  No they consistently double down and keep at it , even when they have nothing to back it with.

His value was low long before Carolina hired him. So, in theory, my comments couldn't devalue him any further even if I tried.

No, Shula is not a prospect with a rap sheet or red flags. He's a coach. His style and resume does matter. It's the same reason why he's been having issues landing coaching gigs after his stints in Alabama and Tampa. Keyshawn Johnson let it be known. He's never developed QBs (not one) nor is he an offensive genius. Why? Because Shula is subpar. He's a Trent Dilfer, a Matt Hasselback, a Mark Sanchez, an Alex Smith, etc of coaches. In other words, Shula is limited. He isn't gifted enough to outwit opposing above average coaching. We've seen this more than enough times.

Shula became our OC by default. You can spew nonsense about how he has shifted our offense into greatness now that we're winning but a polished turd is still a turd.

Coaching does not require athletic ability so its not like you either have it or you dont.  I dont think its a good comparison to say he is limited in the same ways as those players.

Are you saying that you dont think Shula can figure out how to do his job well?  I think Rivera would tell you that he himself has evolved a lot as a coach the past few years and that it took him awhile to really figure it out.  Does no one think that Shula can take a similar path?  Arent you glad that we've given Rivera the time to establish his system?

Quote from my earlier post:

Think about all the excuses we have given Cam.. Byron Bell..Bad WRs, etc.. It doesnt make much sense to not factor those things when judging Shula.

That isnt true at all.  Shula came here from Jacksonville after resurrecting Garrard's career.  He was considered a very good quarterback coach.  Once here, he did a fantastic job teaching Cam everything he knows about a pro style offense. The fact Cam did so well in Chud's offense his rookie year was all about Shula and how fast he got him ready to play at a high level.  Before the season pundits were saying it would take Cam 2 years to learn a pro offense.

He became our OC because he had the best plan for how to develop Cam and move him forward.  And that includes Jackson who wanted this job but wasnt hired.  The only person spewing nonsense and trying to justify a stupid position is you  not me.  Stop living in the past and catch up.  This is 2015 not 2000.
