Panthers beat Seahawks with nothing going their way

The Greg Olsen horse collar got me heated.

Also when the clock didn't stop on the pass to the sidelines late in the fourth quarter was mind boggling.

I think the rule on the clock not stopping on that play is because Philly was pushed backwards out of bounds so his forward progress was in bounds and a yard ahead of where he went out. It's kind of a weird rule and at the time we probably would have rather had 1 less yard and the clock stopped, but it's supposed to be in our favor by giving us the extra yard. Unless Philly is the one who initiates the movement backwards and out of bounds then it was the correct call.

For example, had that play occurred right at the first down marker and Philly caught the ball just ahead of it then was pushed out just behind it then we would get a 1st down because his forward progress was ahead of the line to gain and the clock would be running rather than marking him out of bounds behind the line to gain.

I re-watched the game on NFL Game Rewind (or whatever they call it now) and I noticed a few things about the game:

1. The Seahawks didn't get called for a single PI, and only the one Sherman holding call. The Sherman holding helped us a lot, but it was the only break we got there, and Tedd Ginn and Philly Brown were getting tackled nearly every play (sidebar, but I think this game helped the offense see that Funchess is strong enough to hold his own against corners. He was hanging in and getting open, just never held onto it).

2. The Seahwaks OL didn't get called for a single hold. They were holding the whole game, it helped Wilson make explosive plays routinely in this game.

3. The tipped ball interception probably would've been a TD to Tedd Ginn. Just based on how well Cam was slinging it in the late parts of this game I don't think it would given Cary Williams a shot at making that play. They ended up picking it off, leading to a field goal too.

4. The obvious PI against Ginn that would've set us up inside the 30. Tedd Ginn played pretty damn well, they were just holding him and knocking him down repeatedly.

5. The Seahawks banked in a field goal at one point

6. The missed PAT. I hesitate to put this here because I watched all of the PATs and Sherman affected all of them. But still, a missed PAT is something unfortunate that doesn't happen very often.

7. Thomas Davis dropped a pick off a KK tip, the Seahawks got a pick off their tipped pass (#3).

8. We were -2 in TOs. Panthers even more so than other teams struggle to win when this happens

Great post.
We lost the turnover battle and won. Seahawks committed 2 severe PI and didn't get called on it and it really hurt us, luckily we were able to make plays down the stretch to overcome them.

Blew my mind to, but in the end, it actually helped us.  Would have given them at least an extra minute to work with on their last drive.

The defense holding them to 6 points on two turnovers was HUGE.  We USED to be the team that couldn't win when we had even ONE turnover.  Now we are beating teams in THEIR house being in the minus.

BTW, all Seahawks wins have come when they were in the minus; all their losses have come with they were in the plus.  Go figure.

I believe the reason for the Ginn no call is that the ref determined that the ball was uncatchable as it was a good yard or two away from him. It was borderline and I think it should have been called but that didn't bother me too much. I also thought we got away with a similar one near the end of the game(Tillman maybe?) so it evened it out for me.

We might have been on the bad end of 1 or 2 missed calls more than Seattle, but I'll take that in a hostile environment every time. Especially when you consider how chippy the game was at the beginning. If they had wanted to the refs could have turned the game into a flag filled, sh!t show that would have pissed everyone off. I am thankful they did not. It could have ruined a great game.
