Panthers beat Seahawks with nothing going their way

Omega Atrocity

Recommended Posts

I re-watched the game on NFL Game Rewind (or whatever they call it now) and I noticed a few things about the game:

1. The Seahawks didn't get called for a single PI, and only the one Sherman holding call. The Sherman holding helped us a lot, but it was the only break we got there, and Tedd Ginn and Philly Brown were getting tackled nearly every play (sidebar, but I think this game helped the offense see that Funchess is strong enough to hold his own against corners. He was hanging in and getting open, just never held onto it).

2. The Seahwaks OL didn't get called for a single hold. They were holding the whole game, it helped Wilson make explosive plays routinely in this game.

3. The tipped ball interception probably would've been a TD to Tedd Ginn. Just based on how well Cam was slinging it in the late parts of this game I don't think it would given Cary Williams a shot at making that play. They ended up picking it off, leading to a field goal too.

4. The obvious PI against Ginn that would've set us up inside the 30. Tedd Ginn played pretty damn well, they were just holding him and knocking him down repeatedly.

5. The Seahawks banked in a field goal at one point

6. The missed PAT. I hesitate to put this here because I watched all of the PATs and Sherman affected all of them. But still, a missed PAT is something unfortunate that doesn't happen very often.

7. Thomas Davis dropped a pick off a KK tip, the Seahawks got a pick off their tipped pass (#3).

8. We were -2 in TOs. Panthers even more so than other teams struggle to win when this happens

In the context of #5, that was only about a 30 yard field goal, so while the Seahawks did get a good bounce, the odds of that field goal being made were very high already. Had it been a 55 yarder or so that needed to bounce over the crossbar or something, THAT would be more appropriate for "things just not going the Panthers' way."

He held onto a couple of important 4th qtr. balls.

It's happening a lot more often now. More misses through week 2 than all of last season.

For #9 I'd say no breaks on a starting field position.

in 2nd Quarter after our possession where Kalil had to leave for a play, the play right after Graham got flagged for unsportsmanlike for pulling Coleman off the pile, LT Okung got flagged for holding which erased Lynch's 15 yard run and Seattle had to replay 3rd down. KK then sacked Wilson and killed that drive in which Seattle did get a couple big plays

But yeah you're 95% right. Only other holding call I saw in Seattle's backfield was on Lynch for holding Shaq when he was about to sack Wilson and Wilson was able to throw it away. That hurt cuz Shaq had him for about a 15 yard loss

Said it every game, we win despite the ref's.  NFL tells these guys what to see and they don't want them to see us get fouled!  As if JR peed in some bodies Corn Flakes.

Haven't watched a base ball game in years because of the League itself.  NFL keeps trying to make who they want to win WIN they going to loose me real quick now.  These Officials not this Stupid all the time.

The Greg Olsen horse collar got me heated.

Also when the clock didn't stop on the pass to the sidelines late in the fourth quarter was mind boggling.

I remember that, my bud and I watching the game were talking about that.  Then later there was a play where a Panthers receiver got tackled IN BOUNDS and the clock stopped, probably to make up for their mistake.  NFL needs to get their poo together with clock management.

I'm not going to be popular with this opinion, but I don't think the refs were biased in this game.

We got away with one or two cases where personal fouls should of probably been called. We also held on the o-line several times, and I wasn't even looking for it.

The refs decided to let the teams play and kept penalties to a minimum, usually only calling things that were obvious. I thought they did a good job.

All that said, that no-call for pass interference against Ginn was crap.

They virtually had to call the hold on the Lynch run. Luke would have made that tackle easily, and kept it to a 3-4 yard gain.

#10 The phantom false start on Olsen.

Every o-line does some holding that isn't called. But when Wilson takes off to his right & they have a tv shot of our d-lineman turned towards Wilson to chase him, but a Seattle o-lineman has his arms around his waist from behind & is not letting go, that's blatant holding.

I honestly think some officiating crews this year are overwhelmed with all the confusing changes that have been made. And those are no spring chickens out there trying to keep up with everyone. Maybe they need to retire them earlier & hire younger people.

The officials suck this year but they suck equally for everyone. Panther opponents have had just as many penalties called against them as they've called against the Panthers. The narrative that the refs are out to get us is false and just plain wrong when you look at the facts. The refs are just poo all around this year.

This guy gets it.
